aaarrrgghhhh...!

Backing into some army guy's Dodge Charger with an RV is not the best way to start the day. But at least now I know what happens when you do that in Colorado Springs... Required police report, and citation for backing into a car, $85 which i won't complain about. I could go to court and probably get that commuted to community service hours, plus $20 court costs. But on this, i will probably just pay it, and the $500 deductible on the insurance. Everyone was polite and civil, and no hard... Sign in to see full entry.

I felt the earth move

...last night, sitting in my little RV outside my son's house in Colorado Springs. The slightest tremor, silently shuddering through the ground like the passing of a short train or a very, very long truck, and making hanging things swing a little-- I noticed, and wondered--hmmm... earthquake...? Nah... so unlikely! And yet this morning I hear in the day's first news: Second Largest Earthquake in Colorado State History! It was, according to the report I heard, 5.5 with epicenter south of here 130... Sign in to see full entry.

Coming into dock...

Last night, I slept in my son's Colorado Springs driveway. Well, in my little jumped-up camper, with my feet slightly elevated, as the driveway is a slight incline. The point is, we got here, despite the little old RV's complaints and problems, after three nights on the road from the Northwest. I will write and post photos of the trip in my 'travelblogue.' Here, it is about a more personal part of the story. You who have followed along through some of my ups-and-downs as I've shared them here,... Sign in to see full entry.

more frittata experimenting

Today I used butternut squash, sweet walla walla onion, and cheddar cheese all cut into chunks and baked into my basic frittata mixture of crushed cracker crumbs (Italian herb flavored this time) shredded carrots, grated parmesan cheese, and eggs. (350F, 30 minutes) And finally, I have looked up some other recipes, to get some further ideas both for ingredients and procedures. Next time, I will sautee all the vegies and other additions first, then stir the eggy mixture straight into the iron... Sign in to see full entry.

heirlooms...!

Years ago, when I was 9 or 10, my dad went to Lancaster PA on business, and visited the Lancaster Farmer's Market. He brought home some immense, wonderful beefsteak tomatoes. They were the best tomatoes I've ever tasted! We ate em whole, like plums, they were so delicious! You can still find the huge, perfect beefsteak tomato. But somewhere along the long road to perfection of form, they lost their content: the flavor that makes you just close your eyes and smile, as you savor each bite. Lately,... Roseanne's Nuts

I have a new favorite TV show. I always liked Roseanne, she was me in slightly other circumstances. I got her humor and loved the wry twist, and totally understood her jokes. Remember when she lost everything when she sang the National Anthem at a ball game, with inappropriate humorous gestures? Her show and ratings crashed, and her popularity fell apart. It was all a big joke that no one laughed at, and left her and everyone connected with her embarrassed, at the least. I have done dumb stuff... Sign in to see full entry.

This is what I've been waiting for

I can't help but remember a Stella Mars postcard of a cat grinning fiercely in a wedding veil, the caption: No more nights in the alley! http://www.zharmae.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=58&Itemid=107 (and yes, Christine Redding is CLRedding is Ciel is me.) Frittata

One of the best memories of New Zealand is the beautiful, artful breakfast frittata. If you've never had one, it is like a cross between a quiche and muffin. It is eggs and breadcrumbs baked around vegetables, and other savory things: bacon, sausage, chunks of cheese... Salmon is good, too. Of course these things can all be simply thrown scrambled together into an oven-proof dish and baked a while. But that isn't how they do it in New Zealand. This morning, I laid some wholegrain bread bits in... Sign in to see full entry.

TAPS poked me...

So here I am with some news and updates... I have had an email from the second Dutch Watch Forum member, the one who found my dad's lunar watch, and will be sending it to me. So, that is still happening... Meanwhile... also fun and exciting: I have been brought into a publishing enterprise, a start-up at this point, so no one gets paid, but the plan is that one day it will be a real job, with paychecks and tax withholdings and all! Cool! I might actually get enough into Social Security to... Sign in to see full entry.
