An unexpected visitor this evening...

https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/25nt91 Isn't he lovely? I was concerned for the local squirrel, but according to the book, this fellow prefers poultry: the house finches, sparrows and others raised something of a fuss until he left. Sign in to see full entry.

I have a dilemma...

I have a dilemma, and your feedback is welcome. The collective wisdom from life experience and perspective here in Blogit Village is substantial! Charlie and I have discussed this somewhat, and he blogged about his situation here: http://projectprospero.blogspot.com/2015/08/i-was-so-not-built-to-live-in.html?showComment=1439033422886#c8917338274726757952 He will be 30 soon, and he needs all the things one needs to build a stable foundation for a life: basic necessities like food, rent,... What luck!

The truck might not have made it all the way to the strip mall where my bank is... I might not have been able to get it into a parking space... My phone had JUST enough juice to make arrangements for a tow, and I had not left it at home... It could have been temps in the 90s, instead of cloudy and 80s... Thunderstorms on either side could have caught me outside and didn't... The gout could have been this week instead of last week. I could have not been able to reach Charlie's dad to get the AAA... Blue moon

Last night, she rode brightly despite being veiled in clouds, and my little camera did its best to capture the vision of it. This time, in honor of the occasion, I confess to fiddling the color balances in favor of a certain blueness. Also, there are a couple more shots of the garden. In other news... Charlie is off to his last Saturday as Ren Fest Court Drummer, probably another hot, sunny, exhausting day. Tomorrow, closing day, he will be there late as the cast and crew celebrate the end of... How does the garden grow...?

Coming along nicely, my morning glories and nasturtiums, and a couple of other things. The morning glories seem to grow overnight several inches of tendril, using the water I pour in once or twice a day, I suppose. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/C22p02 Out back, the birds have planted sunflowers as they eat so messily, and the sunflower seeds are very healthy. While the one in the photos has gone face down in the yard (I blame the high winds we had here a few days ago) others are getting... Sign in to see full entry.

The dream ends...

More than once I have gloated over the lack of mosquitoes where I live. In three years, I saw maybe three mosquitoes! This summer, that gloating ends. It has been a wetter spring and summer than usual and somewhere, water is gathering. So--mosquitoes. We've dumped out all the containers that collect water, but there is not much we can do about the pool on the flat roof that we can't even see. I suspect that it does not drain thoroughly between rains. Now what we need are more bats. Meanwhile,... Sign in to see full entry.

so... tofu

A lot of people don't much like tofu, the non-dairy, soy bean curd, the cottage cheese of the vegetable world. It is white, bland, and just not terribly interesting. But there are ways to make it a lot more appealing and interesting, because of it's tendancy to absorb and become the flavors you cook it with. I start with a firm tofu, not the soft kind that is good to blend into a recipe, adding protein and a bit of texture, and essentially vanishing. The firm brick has a bit more of its own... Saw a show last night...

The plain truth is, I have a deep-seated antipathy towards bodily waste. As long as I can remember, the disgust seems bottomless... so to speak... even knowing it is quite natural, a part of living in a body. Feeling so often overcomes knowing. Maybe I had an unfortunate toilet-training. The point is, some essential part of my personality shies away, disapproves, even disdains the title: URINETOWN, THE MUSICAL. But we had comp tickets and it is a show that has won awards on Broadway, is highly... Sign in to see full entry.

Owwww...

Gout has made a reappearance. Earlier in the week, my right foot ached in a particular place, and I finally realized, I know this ache... Some years ago, it was an occasional crippling that came on after eating certain foods, or twisting an ankle. It took a ridiculously long time for the doc to acknowledge that it was indeed gout, and to prescribe a medication that re-organizes how the body metabolizes uric acid, which, micro-crystalizing in the joints, causes such misery. I have not had a... Sign in to see full entry.

Lament

When the night goes dark, all glowing wild eyes dimmed and dead; When the forest goes silent of song and cry and roar and there is only the creaking of trees moved by the rush of wind; When flowers no longer hum with the dancing bee; When the sky is empty of wings that glitter and crackle or softly beat the air; When water is wild and foul and dry dust bakes unsheltered from the sightless sun; When the heart of humanity is broken with loneliness and shame, saying and knowing We had the warnings,...
