One just like that grew up around here. He lived nearby and perched

in the upper branches of a tall pine a couple houses down. One morning I got up early to look out the window over the sink, and there he was, spitting fur over a young rabbit on the lawn. He had the meat completely skinned and took off in the time it took Keurig to brew my coffee. I was a bit stunned, a bit in awe. Reawakened my awareness of the temporary nature of the status quo...

Re: TAPS,

Yes, it was exciting to be able to get quite close for the photos. It hung around, checked out various trees and bushes, the views from various fences, porches, and roofs. Finally, it flew away towards the front of the house and may have taken up a roost in the big maple tree just off the deck.

Re: Naut,

Could be this one looks different because it's young. I think it is young. Its mannerism suggested youthful uncertainty and confusion.

Re: Kabu,

Nature isn't nice, isn't gentle, doesn't care much. We have to provide the compassion where we can, and everyone gets a hand from luck now and then. I was glad to learn this hawk doesn't eat squirrels.

Marvellous! We have Cooper hawks in this area that drop in every now and then to help themselves to one of our regular guests, but this one belongs to a different variety, I think...

absolutely superb. What a visitor. Life is rough for the outdoors friends that we make. Nature is sometimes tough to cope with for of course for this wonderful guy to survive others may not. Enjoy such a handsome visitor
