Waiting for the ride...

This morning, bright and sunny as it is, I am riding with Charlie's ride to the Renaissance Festival where most likely I will spend the entire day and come home utterly exhausted and as glad of a sit-down in a comfy chair as I have ever been! The camera is getting its last little electical bits stuffed into the battery, and I have a pouch full of scribery gear: pens, inks (black and brown) and various-sized bits of what I fondly call my own artificial 'real parchment.' It may be I can write up a... Sign in to see full entry.

Facebook isn't what it used to be.

https://screen.yahoo.com/betty-white-monologue-facebook-000000994.html Betty White's assessment of Facebook, five years ago, was pretty much in keeping with mine, when I had been on there for a time, then moth-balled my account. It was silly, essentially pointless activities, like games and quizzes, and a lot of personal stuff that was like what you learn of people when they sit at a table near yours in a restaurant, and by the time you leave, you know far more about their lives than you could... New house, new squirrel!

The floors are nearly done in the little house, and photos are up in the usual place. Yesterday, after a long lack of squirrels in the neighborhood, this little one turned up. It has a sort of bent tail, and the ears are the worse for wear, and it's shy, but bold enough to come requesting peanuts on the back porch, and once again, I am pleased to oblige, and to take a few pictures, too. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/og5zFn Sign in to see full entry.

Morning Gardening

This is my third garden season in this house. Previous attempts to grow vines on the deck, for shade and color, and for vegies--sugar snap peas and red runner beans--were sad failures: winds here are punishing and dry, and nothing survived but a few morning glories which were quite lovely while they lasted. This year, though, morning glories, nasturtiums and zinnias have all sprouted strongly, and there are even a few sprouts of Japanese Lantern plants poking into sight. In the cool of the... Progress on the house continues... Floors!

Last night I was working in the garage, laying wood floors in the little house. Overhead, lightning was cracking and banging, the kind of weather some people and just about all animals dislike with great alarms and anxieties. Even people who like thunderstorms--I'm one of them--glanced up to say, "Is this becoming a thing...? Should I be worried?" But I felt safe enough down in the garage with two ceilings overhead, and just kept at the task at hand. For many year, ever since I first saw coffee... Sign in to see full entry.

New pictures!

https://flic.kr/p/vimj3S Click right to see the house renovation. As you can see, the painting has begun... Click left for the elephant's birthday party! Every summer, the Colorado Ren Fest sends Paige, one of the elephants, to host her birthday party in the park downtown. This year, she turns 30. I think she turned 30 last year, too. Busy Days!

Yesterday I went to an elephant's birthday party, opened a credit union account, shopped for tiny house renovation materials. This morning in the cool of the day, I rearranged the garage so that the landlord can get to a piece of ceiling that needs repairing, and also at the other end, to replace the garage door. Also, so I can access the tiny house. I saw today that the tiny house is wired for light, but has no battery connection. have to figure that out! Time to go drive Charlie to the filming... Dinosaur!

Another hazy cool morning... A strong breeze came through yesterday bringing the temperatures down by around 10 degrees. Yesterday it was more humid than one might expect for an area that is, in fact, high desert--though it has been wet of late, and lawns are green. Charlie and I went to see the dino-romp again: JURASSIC WORLD, and as ever, discussed afterwards what was wrong and what they got right, and what didn't matter, really, as it was fun. For instance... the leading lady goes everywhere... Sign in to see full entry.

I bought a house!

I plan to spend the next little while renovating and redecorating, inside and out, then maybe reselling it for a nice tidy profit. I will start by painting inside and out, cream on the outside, bright white inside. That will take an hour or so, with a couple of cans of spray paint. I will lay down hardwood floors in a couple of rooms, and then stain and varnish them. I plan to use coffee stirrers and popsicle sticks. It needs a new staircase, likewise to be built out of popsicle sticks, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Dad...

I imagine you are somewhere out there among the stars, touring the planets, getting to know them, hanging out with the likes of Galileo and Ptolemy, Einstein, Bob Shaw and the host of other explorers and scientists who spent a time here, and then went on. Maybe there are some astronomers from the Plieidies in ongoing discussion of why beings of other worlds would ever find it worth the energy costs to visit that little backwater planet we call Earth, way out along the outer spiral arm of the...
