Charlie's next great adventure begins!

copied from Charlie's announcement on facebook: War is coming. Not a war of nations, or a war of families, or kingdoms, or gangs... but a war... OF THE WORLDS! That is to say, the good folks at Theatre 'd Art have accepted my proposal for a devised adaptation of Orson Welles radio adaptation of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds. My first full size public devised performance, and I couldn't have hoped for a better show or a more awesome group of people to help me bring the story to the stage. So know... Confirmed: I have a mouse in my house.

I thought it might be so, seeing a shadow dash across my peripheral vision a couple of times in the wrong place for it to be Spot or Fluffy, my two persistant floaters. Just as I was about to come up with a third pet name, Charlie saw it, too. And last night, I got a clear look as it dashed a bit slower than usual, and there was an unmistakeable, undeniable tail. It seems to have come in from the deck, underwhich is, no doubt, a rich supply of bird seed as well as pretty secure shelter from... Sign in to see full entry.

Thar she blows...!

Autumn is blowing in on wings of wind! Still a few days from the equinox, but strong and chilly breezes have swept this landscape for a couple of days, off and on. I needed an extra blanket on my bed last night. I love autumn... something is unbearably, irresistably poignant about it, with the fading of summer passion, and the not so very distant onset of bleak, sleepy winter... The turning leaves are the year's last Hurrah! in all their brilliance, to feed the color-hunger in us through the... Sign in to see full entry.

Yesterday and today... Doing Stuff

Yesterday was a busy and productive one, compared to the ones where I never manage to tear myself away from the computer for longer than it takes to make a meal or answer Nature's other calls. All the plants got watered from the nutrient-rich water out of the fish tank that got cleaned. A new betta joined the household, a little red fella in a cylindrical tank. No photos yet, but there will be, I'm sure. The old betta who has air bladder problems and usually swims on his side also got a bigger... Sign in to see full entry.

Be fruitflies, and multiply!

It was not good. It was better after I put up three new fly paper strips. That'll larn me not to forget to take out the garbage before a trip! Also multiplied: the morning glories! Photos are up in the usual place, next to the Window Seat shots of the return trip. They are a lovely welcome home present, much nicer than hordes of fruit flies. Eyes are settling in, getting used to working together. It will be some days more before I trust their cooperation for driving. Now... I need some coffee...... Sign in to see full entry.

Last Days in the Pacific Northwest

In about an hour, I'm off to the first-week-after appointment with the eye surgeon. I will mention to him the 'floaters' that have been dogging my peripheral vision since the surgery. If they persist, I will give them names and consider them pets, like that cat almost seen slipping around in the corner of your eye. One will be Spot because it is a small black spot, sometimes on the edge, sometimes traveling across the center of my vision. The other which resembles a bit of lint will be Fluffy.... dimsum breakfast!

Yesterday we stopped at an Asian market and brought back a number of little tasty or tasty-looking small food items for making a dimsum breakfast at home. For anyone who has not had dimsum, they are a collective name for little tidbits and morsels that are often steamed, like shu-mai and pot-stickers and steamed or baked dumplings and buns. Some are sweet, like those filled with red bean paste, and some are savory with meat fillings. In a restaurant, a cart comes by the tables with steamer... Sign in to see full entry.

Raining in Seattle!

Yes, yes, it is always supposed to be raining in Seattle... But what people far from here suppose isn't how it is. In fact, summers in the Puget Sound region can be simply gorgeous! Even idyllic! With the occasional summer heat-wave that drives people to nearby mountains or ocean beaches, and long dry stretches, it can get too hot and dry even west of the Cascades. This summer there are wildfires in the Olympics to prove it. But those fine days of temperatures in the 70s and low 80s F, when the... Sign in to see full entry.

Progress in sight

Lovely day here in Seattle--moderate temps, sunny with a few clouds, no rain expected. Ordinarily I am not much into discussing ailments and procedures that I'm going through, but I think there is a value in making some of the details more familiar to people who may, sooner or later, be faced with similar situations. It would have been helpful to me to have some information from others regarding this one, and things like root canal work, or childbirth, or growing old. Well, not everyone's awful... On to the next phase...

Big ol' eyepatch, no depth perception... Eye surgery was surreal, what with a fair amount of sedation and yesterday's Battle of Five Armies and a Doctor Who binge... the latest Doctor, Peter Capaldi's first 6 episodes. Blend with geometrics and patterns of other kinds... Looking forward to the next eye-fix, in a month or so. Tylenol now, and a lie-down... The healing phase will be more challenging, I think.
