Pat B mentioned Orange Marmelade scones

or biscuits, in the US--I made up a batch this afternoon. With bisquick (using the term generically, but I use the low-fat Bisquick) it's as easy as putting the dry mix in the bowl, adding the flavor stuff, and liquid, and stirring it up. Measuring... Nah... just add liquid until it is the right consistancy for dough. I do drop biscuits rather than rolled and cut ones. Quicker, simpler, just as tasty. So... I melted some orange marmelade I happened to have, in some warm water, and added that... Sign in to see full entry.

Still chilly, still grey...

But all of you, my friends of Blogit, have left so many bright candles glowing in my little cubby here, that I am very much cheered up. Thank you, all, very much indeed! I made savory biscuits last night, with breakfast sausage, apples, sharp cheddar, and chives, and both the making and eating was also cheering. There was a time in their early teen years when my girls, for some reason, found everything "cute as a biscuit." I think I will have some cute biscuits for breakfast, and take some up to... glums today...

Is it the forever-dank, dark, chill weather? The cheese I ate yesterday evening? Not as much sleep as I seem to be wanting? The sad, sad news out of Oklahoma? Whatever it is, it's a glum day. Visiting friends and fellow-bloggers is like lighting little candles. Sign in to see full entry.

I wonder how long it would take with door knobs.

Strange and wonderful!

The sun is shining through the jungle outside my bedroom window, and is very cheering. I suppose it will grey up and rain again later, but for now, it's very heartening. In CoSpring, there is a downstairs room that peers out into the backyard from beneath the small deck and steps down to the yard. It is barren now, the yard--more a sandlot than a place to enjoy. I have plans to plant shade-loving plants in the shade under the deck, hanging some from the wooden supports, because ever since I... Sign in to see full entry.

They told me it would be warm...

warm and sunny, very pleasant, the best kind of weather in the Northwest... but they lied. It hasn't been near 80F, it's barely making it to 70, and the skies play with sunshine in the morning, but soon it will be raining again. I looked up the weather forecast, so didn't pack for this. I wasn't psyched for it. I am annoyed, feeling cold and cheated. It makes me positively cranky. At least, in the warmer days leading up to these, flowers have blossomed--here's your good news, CCT: dark purple... Sign in to see full entry.

It's done

The eye surgery was accomplished without any unlooked-for (heheh... eye pun there) complications. Recovery time will be about the next week, after which he should be able to drive and lift things over 20 lbs. and get around without walking into posts. I fly back to Violetta and Charlie and my place around the 28th. And then we do it again in July, for the other eye. Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes! Sign in to see full entry.

"Well, here we are back in the car again..."

The weather report online said it was in the 70s, near 80sF, and sunny days, clear nights... The guy driving the plane said, "Light rain in Seattle, and 61 degrees." And so it was, when we touched down near 10PM. Waking this morning in my old room, my comfortable old bed, I see in daylight the lush green of the northwest spring, fully leafed-out, and wet. When I was here a month ago, the houses beyond the woods were visible. Now--we could be in some deep, secluded glade of the rainforest, and no... Sign in to see full entry.

The Uneasy Mother

Mothering isn't easy. In fact, it is one of the most demanding jobs in the world, and one of the very most important to get right. Knowing how important that is, makes it that more demanding, and makes mothers who are so afraid they aren't up to it, and wrestle with guilt and feelings of shame and inadequacy when perfection remains elusive... Well, I'm here to tell you what I heard from someone else--guy named Bruno Bettelheim--that mothers ( he said "parents" in fact, but today isn't Parent's... Sign in to see full entry.

Sigh... 20-something acting like ... much younger.

I asked him days ago if he could drive me to the airport on Sunday afternoon. He seemed to think it over, then said, sure he could. No problem. Sunday afternoon. This guy can be kinda flaky, but this seemed safe enough--soon enough and simple. But last night I heard from my roomer, who is a friend of his, that, in fact, he can't do it, his car might not be up to it. That's annoying and very inconvenient. But what really ticks me off was that he didn't tell me as soon as he knew, he didn't tell... Sign in to see full entry.
