The Mountain is back

It was gone all day yesterday, hidden behind a low overcast sky that persisted from before dawn, into the next night. But this morning, there is not a cloud in view, and Pike's Peak is where it should be, and more bare of snow than it was last time I saw it. The hot days are coming, with temps in the 90s. I will have the curtains closed, and spend a lot of time downstairs where the thermometer reads about 12 degrees cooler than upstairs on hot days. The porch doors will be open until the sun... I'm placing an ad...

The cool, quiet downstairs room at the back of the house is looking for temporary tenancy. In a college community, this can be a good option to have available. And I don't want a permanent tenant: I love my personal space! But an occasional tenant will help keep the rent paid. I'm placing another ad, too, advertising my services as writing coach/editor. This is a great space for small workshops and for meeting clients. Got my fingers crossed, the right eyes will see the ads. They are going into... Sign in to see full entry.

In evening's cool...

I sit on the deck, and on the radio, playing loud enough to enjoy out here, a concert of John Williams music. It's the Colorado Philharmonic, and the concert is happening now, being broadcast and streamed for those of us who don't care to sit in concert hall seats. The heat of the day is done, the sky is brilliant with pink clouds, and a single pink jet trail... No, I would not trade this for driving and parking downtown, then sitting close confined with hundreds of other people, and having to... Sign in to see full entry.

A dreadful scream in the late hours of the night...

It kept on for some time, not a human sound, not any kind of cat, not a dog... It went on for maybe 10 minutes, rough and high-pitched but not exactly a growl or snarl, it was a scream that seemed to me to have anger and anguish in it! Once, it seemed to recede, as if it was running or being carried away, then came back, loud and close. The street is dark, too dark to see anything. It was not a cougar or bobcat, I know what they sound like. It wasn't any kind of creature I could think of in our... Sign in to see full entry.

Flickr has made some changes

...most of which I like, especially the way the photostream is presented. There are some new images up now, a few of the place in Olympia, and some of the first couple of days back here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ This link takes you to the photostream. I think you will like it, too! Our Charles went to a movie last night, and the ticket taker recognized him from a couple of his performances. Charlie looked very pleased and sort of surprised, when he told me about it. Sign in to see full entry.

Clouds coming over the mountain...

and from here I can see the rain bucketing down on the slopes facing this way. It has been a lovely, blue-skies day since mid-morning, but the forecast did promise thunderstorms. Remembering the doozies of last summer, I am very much looking forward to seeing that from my own windows. One of my particular pleasures here, is the experiencing of all weathers and conditions that the area is prone to, from my own comfortable vantage. It's very satisfying to see the world from up a little higher than... Sign in to see full entry.

Home

From May 12 to the 27th... doesn't seem that long a time, but while I've been in the rainy forest of the Northwest, spring burst out in front of my deck. The bare tree to the left is suddenly in full leaf--it's a maple of some kind, lush and shady. It does cut the view of the mountains down, but will make it cooler here on the coming hot and sunny summer afternoons. The whole neighborhood is graced with these green reefs, where birds--doves, crows, magpies, blackbirds visiting from the nearby... Sign in to see full entry.

The Perfect Sale

First, the store had a nice little camera, one like I've been wanting: pocket-sized digital, wide-angle, very close macro... even, the 3 inch view screen. Second, this camera was on sale: $99 which was an $80 savings. Third, I had 'points' of credit to spend, and had to spend it before June 1. So... yes, I have a new little camera, a Canon Powershot A4000 IS. If you are inquisitive: http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/canon_powershot_a4000_is_review/ I'll let you know how it works out, now I... Sign in to see full entry.

Productive Saturday

Despite lowering weathers and a newly-wonky knee, I had a nice morning at the Farmer's Market, getting some of the best smoked salmon in the world, as I promised Charlie I would, and some Hawaiian pork jerky, a gyros sandwich for 11ses, and a cup of good coffee. At home again, I packed up a large padded envelope (bright red!) with books, and mailed them off to me. While I was at it, assembled three packing boxes and filled them with costuming to be mailed when pennies are sufficient. Or, if I... Sign in to see full entry.

Pat B mentioned Orange Marmelade scones

or biscuits, in the US--I made up a batch this afternoon. With bisquick (using the term generically, but I use the low-fat Bisquick) it's as easy as putting the dry mix in the bowl, adding the flavor stuff, and liquid, and stirring it up. Measuring... Nah... just add liquid until it is the right consistancy for dough. I do drop biscuits rather than rolled and cut ones. Quicker, simpler, just as tasty. So... I melted some orange marmelade I happened to have, in some warm water, and added that... Sign in to see full entry.
