yoyo

After those deadenly hot days, we are now in a series of cool ones, temps in the 60s F (around 18C), constant grey and intermittant rain. There was distant thunder yesterday afternoon, but up at the Ren Faire rehearsal, Charlie said they were not bothered by it. The real rain came in the night, soaking the ground, for which we are always glad! Charlie is back at the Ren Faire fields today. He signed up his first customer last Thursday. Four others are waiting to hear from him again, some of them... Sign in to see full entry.

Ennervation

Odd word, that: the lack of energy that comes over me when there is too much heat in my world. Not an uncommon condition, after all: the word shows up in literature of the tropics and Deep South and extreme summers. It means I have been reading posts here, but finding my mind empty of response, empty of inspiration and energy for writing my own. I thank all of you who have been reading and leaving your thoughts on my posts, and apologize for not being responsive. Temps have been in the high... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday rambles

It's a quiet day without wind shoving or storm encroaching. Of course, it's early yet, and no telling what the afternoon will hold, but I have, with hope, begun to marinate chunks of lamb for grilling around dinner time. Charlie is at the Ren Faire rehearsal which I now know the location of, since yesterday he mis-communicated with his ride, and so missed the ride, and isn't it lucky I was here! Of course, he got there still later because I'd misplaced my keys and it took 20 minutes to find... Sign in to see full entry.

A big THANK YOU! and a tribute

to everyone who has left good wishes and congrats and all in the comments here, for Charlie. They have been passed along, and he is appreciative. I am, too, and glad to be able to share the bits and pieces of his work. All three of my kids have grown up into the world productive and capable of giving and receiving love, able to enjoy life and be happy. Each one has chosen quite a different path, but they are unstoppable, every one! Anne works for a company that helps companies develop an on-line... Sign in to see full entry.

New world in the morning...

The sun is shining in a blue sky, only a few fleecy clouds around... No fear of hailstones or high winds today, and plants can drink up the sunshine and stretch a little further. Just before the hail, I'd pruned back my very sad-looking hibiscus, removing most of the saddest leaves. The storm took the rest, all but one. But, lo, today there are tiny leaf buds popping out along the branches, and there is hope for a full recovery. After some greatly anticipating events, there is a let-down feeling... Long days!

Charlie's sister, the middle kid, and dad are here for the weekend, and we are making the most of it. Today we got up and had breakfast together then went a few miles up the road--3, maybe--to the Garden of the Gods park. Being Memorial Day weekend, and the day after a major school's graduation exercises, it was crowded. There is a one-way road that goes around the park, and we found no parking in the first lot that leads to the main pathways and trails, so we went on around until on the next... Matriculating in public

Today, as the saying goes, is The Day. Charlie's dad and one of his sisters arrived at the same airport from opposite sides of the country, she rented a car and waited for his arrival, then they followed the gps voices that led them here around 11 last night. We ate a light late supper, then she went off to her hotel and I went to bed. Charlie and his dad went next door to play for a while. Marika's inner clock was chiming 2am by then, while the Dad's was still at 11pm. This morning I was up at... Sign in to see full entry.

The pictures are up

of yesterday's hail storm and damage. https://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ And the radio voice just said there could well be more severe weather this afternoon. What a fun place to live. Excuse me, while I go bring in some plants... Oh, follow the stream a little further, to see some less dire images. Sign in to see full entry.

The days have been so nice... warm, sunny...

The rose has been sending out canes to climb and wrap itself around the railings... The sugar pea vines have gotten long enough to begin to seek things to cling to... I potted up a new plant, a dark pinky orange nemesia and set it on the deck by the rail, along with a few other plants that spent the winter thriving indoors... The maple has filled out with its soft, vibrant green... And then, the wind and the hail came. Hailstones 1/4-1/2 inch wide--not nearly as big as they can be, but in such...
