Well. The eyes are fixed, and in a month or will be all healed, and then it will be time to get some prescription glasses for close work:taking pictures, reading and writing and doing computer work. Until then, it's muddling along with magnifier glasses which... muddle along. The second mission was to clear out some of the stored old household stuff which currently takes up two (one large, one small) storage units near the old house. Originally, I'd intended to rent a Uhaul truck, but with one... Sign in to see full entry.

Yesterday...
Charlie is spending the weekend at a state park south of Olympia where his ole buddies are creating another Live Action Role Play fantasy weekend. But before we dropped him off there, he and I had a lovely and longer-than-expected walk through the campus of The Evergreen State College. We used to go there for other LARPs and for TESC's Super Saturday which was one of the best community festivals ever until it lost its original spirit and turned into just another sales/shopping opp for vendors... Eyes can see (almost) clearly now...
Surgery was yesterday, patch came off today, and there are certain auto-habits I have to be changing. I will no longer be able to adjust my vision by pushing on the bridge of my nose. Wearing magnifiers to see close up, I will now be looking over my glasses to see far rather than near. It will be useful to remember I no longer have protective eye-shields when eating grapefruit. While Fluffy seems to have gone, and Spot visits only now and then, and is somewhat smaller than before, I now have a... Sign in to see full entry.

Scotch eggs!
Never had them before... Since hearing about haggis, I've glanced askance at Scottish delicacies. But last night, on my elder daughter's recommendation (she tried them at the same restaurant when she was visiting Seattle a few months ago), I discovered them to be tasty! Imagine a deviled egg surrounded by thin pork and bread crumbs, deep-fried. Eggs not merely deviled, but totally cursed! There were two eggs (four pieces) accompanied by a garlic mayonaise. Beside them, I had a bowl of yellow... Sign in to see full entry.

Going down the list...
Go to the bank... check! Pack clothes... check! Prepay surgery copay... check! Print out boarding passes... check! Recharge phone... check! Feeling much better today, and getting things accomplished... Might fit in a haircut, if they can fit me in, and I have in mind shopping for a new camera, not too pricey, that works, as both my older ones are not working at all well. There is a chance that tomorrow, flying from CoSprings to LA, seated by a south side of the plane window, I may catch a... Sign in to see full entry.

And they're off!
A dozen or so various sized plastic bins and boxes, labeled by actor and characters... All the stuff that is mine, not bought on Theatre D'Arte's budget, has been listed out on loan agreements for the actors to sign, taking responsibility to get them back to me within a couple of weeks after the end of the show, and clean. I am not going with them as I have been feeling a might peakie today... dizzy and tummy-troubled, maybe a bit fevery, and not up for a jaunt downtown. As I napped this... Sign in to see full entry.
I hated to do it...
but cute and winsome as they are, mice are terribly destructive and are vectors around here for deadly diseases, though no fault of their own. There is bubonic plague in the American West, associated with many rodents, also hantavirus, salmonella, and other nasty things. Some of these are transmitted by droppings which mice drop in abundance. They also drop more mice in abundance and in very short order. My visiting mousies had to go. As my animal-aware daughter pointed out, a quick-kill snap... Sign in to see full entry.

Return of the Soup
This morning I had to face the truth: the baby zucchinis in my fridge are on their last day, maybe the day after. The butternut squash I steamed the other day cannot last much longer. The green onions, the fresh mushrooms, the exotic carrots... all fading and looking like... Cook Me NOW! Okay... can of Progresso's french onion soup in a pot, followed by all the rest, and a bit of lime juice still left from yesterday's cookery. I am eating it now... and... delish! Oh, and whole grain toast... Sign in to see full entry.

The day the fish came in
Last night was pretty chilly, down to low 40s F, and so today I brought in the deck garden, including the "water feature." It's a large roundish planter, about 20 inches across at the top, about two feet high. There is a little fountain in the center, and at night I have listened to the water softly babbling outside the door to the outside. It could have stayed out, except for the fish. My three big goldfish have lived in it for a few weeks now, and while carp are tough, and goldfish are carp, I... Sign in to see full entry.
I had to share this here...
A letter, written by my granddaughter, has recently resurfaced on Facebook, and I took the opportunity to preserve it on flickr, to share with you: https://flic.kr/p/yUzYUS Yes, she did it, and it's all true! Sign in to see full entry.
