We have had our lovely few days

and tomorrow, cold again, and maybe even snow. I've brought the tender plants in where they can be safe from the blast of another day of winter. Clouds--heavy, dark mammatus clouds--have filled the sky, and rain falls like a veil from some of them, never reaching the ground. Behind them, a wall of grey proceeds from the mountains, and I'm still wondering if that downpour will get all the way to our house. What's with these kids...?

Clearly, no one teaches basic courtesy and consideration to their children any more.:As I was heading for bed last night, close to midnight, on the first night of the spring warm enough to leave open the door to the deck, I realized there was a party in the neighborhood. Cars were lining the streets, and I could hear more arriving, and little gaggles of persons of youth were polarized towards a house around the corner and down the block. Well, I did it...

This morning, the ad went live on craigslist, for a short-term housemate. That means that I am sitting down with paper and pen and writing out the items that need to be discussed in an interview. Like, what 'communal kitchen rules' means. And that the bathroom is nearly all theirs, but actually is also the guest bathroom, so needs to be kept guest ready. Shy Guy

I woke today just as dawn was starting. The sky to the east was pale blue, light pink, and wisps of soft grey... and a dash of darque as the little black squirrel raced along the railing and onto the porch. I opened the door and offered a fat peanut... and oho! This was not Madame, but another of her kindred who danced the yes... no, yes please... no... dance, not quite confident enough to take the peanut from my hand. The sun is going down

on a day like summer, the temperature rising into the 70s F, a good--even excellent!--10 degrees over the norm for early April. Not that we haven't earned it! Tonight will be well above freezing, and the little plants will stay out in the moonlight. I've got lamb marinading and thought of doing shishkabobs on the grill outside, but with the light going and the cool (not cold) coming on, I am thinking I will use the broiler indoors. Tossing out the plants...

Well, gently, into the sunshine on the back porch, and into the coming afternoon sunshine on the front deck. Forecast is for a very warm week, no great blustering winds, and nights well-above freezing. But I am cautious, watching the daily forecastings, and ready to hustle them all back inside again, if necessary. Two notable events today

The first was brief but cheering: As I stepped out of the door, I didn't see the flash but I did hear the season's first roll of thunder! Then I went to see a screening of the National Theater Live's production of WARHORSE. NTLive shows originate in Great Britain, and are broadcast to theaters worldwide. We've seen several productions here: MACBETH we saw a few months ago, staged in a deconsecrated old stone church in Manchester, and starring Kenneth Branagh. There are no great names in the cast... Official Court Drummer

That's the position Charlie has been offered at the Colorado Renaissance Faire, and they will pay him for the ~8 weekends, besides! He's got to get a couple of very particular white shirts made, which won't be cheap, but we'll manage, of course. And one of his sisters is springing for some boots, as his graduation gift. Did I mention, he graduates in May? He is partly sorry for that, not only because his student loan repayments will kick in 6 months after, but more because the classes and... It snew... It has snown...

I know I keep saying this... And maybe today, it's really true: really the last snow of the season. I looked out on the front deck when I woke, to see a smattering of white on the deck, and the street is still black and wet. How surprised I was, to come look out onto the back porch and see the railing under six inches of snow! The lilacs that were beginning to open their leaves and go green, are clumps of white.
