Blogit is being all funny... not ha-ha, either

I wrote my nearly 500 word story for the prompt up there in the Prompts blog, yes, wrote it as a comment... and when I 'entered comment' got the page saying it could not find that page... So, I went back to 'write' and to that blog, and then looked at the comments. Mine was there. Ha ha, Blogit, very funny... It is Easter morning and the day is cloudy but nice. There may be thunder and lightning later, but if not, I'm ready, and the little table-top bbq grill is ready for a cook-out with... Sign in to see full entry.

Success!

I have a housemate moving in this weekend. Young fella, Charlie's age, with much cheerful enthusiasm. He is here for at least this month, then we see how we both feel about a second and third. Of course, you can't tell from a single meeting and interview everything about a person. But the signs are favorable. Meanwhile, it is a lovely day, and the forecast encourages me to put the plants outside on the deck, and begin setting up my garden for the summer. We are all liking being out in the fresh... The Blood Moon has been called less dramatic names

Like, the Copper or Penny Moon. It's the color, of course. Which happens with every total lunar eclipse. On one of my journeys, I happened to park in a Park in southern New Mexico, near Carlsbad Caverns. In the middle of the night, I woke up, and saw outside my window the moon gone nearly all copper. What a treat to see, and sadly, I could not get any good photos of it. So, what's the big deal with this one? There isn't one. Yes, it's dramatic to see. Yes, it is part of a 'tetrad' which is four... Sign in to see full entry.

Clouds are pouring down rain in the mountains, but we are dry here, although it's grey. I refreshed the ad today, in craigslist which has the benefit of listings being free. This time I wrote it with some questions that should slow down any scammers. And I just had a call from a potential housemate who is looking for something in 2 weeks, for at least a month, more if it works out well. Well, it is raining here now, and there is ice in it. I have brought the sprouted plants back inside. Sign in to see full entry.

Didn't call, didn't turn up...

I'd be more disappointed if this had not happened last time, too: someone then got so far as to say he'd move in tomorrow, and bring the money... and never showed up. I had believed him. Now, I keep a shaker of salt by the laptop, and resist the impulse to count chickens before they hatch. We stood on the back porch last night, very early this morning, and watched the moon go red. My cameras and my skills could not get a good clear image, but later on I will post the best. In my Universe blog is... Sign in to see full entry.

Third time... well, you know.

The third email about the room did not sound like a scam, just a guy giving his name and phone number--which, in itself, is one of those signs it isn't a scam. A brief chat on the phone, and we went over a few of the conditions of the situation, and agreed to meet tomorrow. Another good sign: he was not trying to convince me he is the Ideal Housemate. I am now reminding myself of the next Rule: Don't count the chickens before they hatch. But it's okay to feel encouragement that there are real... Sign in to see full entry.

We have had our lovely few days

and tomorrow, cold again, and maybe even snow. I've brought the tender plants in where they can be safe from the blast of another day of winter. Clouds--heavy, dark mammatus clouds--have filled the sky, and rain falls like a veil from some of them, never reaching the ground. Behind them, a wall of grey proceeds from the mountains, and I'm still wondering if that downpour will get all the way to our house. Meanwhile, I got this in the email today: Hello My name is Ellen Hoffman I was born and... Sign in to see full entry.

What's with these kids...?

Clearly, no one teaches basic courtesy and consideration to their children any more.:As I was heading for bed last night, close to midnight, on the first night of the spring warm enough to leave open the door to the deck, I realized there was a party in the neighborhood. Cars were lining the streets, and I could hear more arriving, and little gaggles of persons of youth were polarized towards a house around the corner and down the block. As these packs traveled, their high spirits were loud with... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, I did it...

This morning, the ad went live on craigslist, for a short-term housemate. That means that I am sitting down with paper and pen and writing out the items that need to be discussed in an interview. Like, what 'communal kitchen rules' means. And that the bathroom is nearly all theirs, but actually is also the guest bathroom, so needs to be kept guest ready. And that any personal stuff they don't want accessible to strangers should be kept in their much more private room. I have learned to include a... Sign in to see full entry.

Shy Guy

I woke today just as dawn was starting. The sky to the east was pale blue, light pink, and wisps of soft grey... and a dash of darque as the little black squirrel raced along the railing and onto the porch. I opened the door and offered a fat peanut... and oho! This was not Madame, but another of her kindred who danced the yes... no, yes please... no... dance, not quite confident enough to take the peanut from my hand. Then he raced up onto the table, and when I held it out, very daintily took... Sign in to see full entry.
