an update on Violetta

At the pet store today I found a pouch food that is mostly gravy, and mackeral which is a new flavor for her. She ate about a teaspoon at a time, over the afternoon. I think she even ate some of the fish itself. That is such a relief! Also, she seems to have wearied of the den in the back of the closet. She bedded down on the pantry floor, then on the kitchen floor for a while, and has now gone downstairs to the bathroom where she seems to favor the cool porcelain pedastal of the accoutrement.... Looking for a veterinarian...

...who will bill for services. They don't, any more. You pay up front, or put it on a credit card. If you don't own credit cards, you have to get one before you can take your animal to the vet. And the fees... they add up fast! I found one today who charges a flat $65 for the initial visit, which includes the vaccinations a cat should have. If the cat is currently too ill to receive vaccinations, they charge the same. It seems such an American thing, to care more about the money than anything... Sign in to see full entry.

A fine day!

Yesterday was another beautiful, warm day. I wish I could box up how lovely and relaxing it was, and send some around to all of you! An actor/poet friend of mine needed new headshots for his portfolio and for upcoming auditions. He announced this need on facebook, and got a number of responses from friends with cameras, so I am quite chuffed that he chose to call me. He and his ladyfriend, another friend, came over yesterday for a little lunch and a photo-session. Lunch--I warned them it was an... Sign in to see full entry.

The problem of Breakfast

I get up so early, it is a necessity to follow the Hobbit Breakfast Plan. First Breakfast must be simple and quick, because it is 6 in the morning, and complexities are just not happening. A bowl of donut seeds... Cheerios, to some of us... with pecans and dried or fresh fruit crumbled over, and just enough almond milk, plain or chocolate... That takes the edge off nicely, and gives me strength to come check out my blogit pennies that popped in overnight. This morning, though, it was whole grain,... Sign in to see full entry.

Frost in the treetops

This morning I slept in... woke just after 7, missed the grand colors of dawn on the mountain, but the sky got me dressed and outside with camera in minutes. I don't know the name of this kind of cloud, but maybe someone will tell me. Then, as the cold sidles away, making way for another warm day (55F, they promise) the hoarfrost has a last little fling... https://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ Sign in to see full entry.

See my girl dance!

Here's a sampler of the Silk Road Dance Company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq40CGTB1eg In the first one, Annie is the one who starts out kneeling at the farthest left, and then dances at the right end of the line. In the one with the green gowns, I am pretty sure that's her on the right, first on, last off the stage. In the dance with the children, she wears the blue gown and green hat, and the girl in front of her is her daughter, my grandkid! There is another clip, the Persian Candle... Relief...

Violetta, my 15 yr old cat, is suffering from feline diabetes. She drinks a lot of water, and some days I can't offer her any food she will eat. It has been several days now, she's been on the Just Water, Please diet, and she hangs out in the back of the closet, in a sort of den. I check on her, and she meows and after a moment comes bounding out to check on things. We were up three times last night, trying to get her to eat something. We tried tuna in oil, just a spoonful, and an egg yolk, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Grilled sammiches!

I don't bother too often, and I don't use cheese much any more, but today I just had a hankerin' for a grilled treat, and slapped together some turkey out of a package, a bit of sliced sweet onion, and some of the home-made cranberry sauce from the holidays. I poured a bit of olive oil in the skillet--better in several ways than using butter, and grilled it with only the little problem of nothing in it to hold the stuff together. Careful wielding of a wide spatula managed the job. It was tasty! Sign in to see full entry.

Not low-fat, but the right fat

Breakfast this morning: Violetta, two egg yolks. Me, an egg-whites scramble with shredded cabbage, fresh salmon, sweet onion and a bit of pink salt fried in a tablespoon, or so, of canola oil. Oh, and some sliced avocado on top. Pretty as well as tasty! Outside, the mountain and the air around it are softest pink. The new snow on Pike's Peak grows brighter as I write... Last night, early in the darkness, the slenderest of crescent moons hung there like a bowl over the Rampart Range. I remember... Sign in to see full entry.

Morning light and new snow on the mountain

I was up before dawn, sat and watched that ghost mountain go from white against dark blue sky, to rose and gold and now brilliant white against bright blue. Sunny and clear, but single-digit cold out there! Charlie got me in to watch the final dress rehearsal of the play for which he is a stage-hand this time around. It is called DETROIT and, while the acting was good--a professional group of 4 actors, and the overall theme is worthy, I just didn't care for the play itself. It involves the...
