Pictures morning

It's another lovely day, clear and sunny, the mountain has its dusting of snow, and the leaves have gone just enough so that I can glimpse Garden of the Gods again. There is a squirrel's nest, too, the only leaves left in one particular tree. I wonder if it is the country home of Mdm LaDarque. I tried sunlight to light the baskets I've been working on this week. Halloween pictures!

The last day of October, windy and chilly but more sunny than not... The golden leaves have been dancing on air, past my window all afternoon. The maple tree is lighter by a few pounds of leaves, though there are still enough to fill another strong wind. Boo!

Charlie had a great time decorating our yards... Even the Dog Guy stopped and stared at the corpse of a deer--created of various inorganic substances and materials as a props-making project--tied to the spruce tree in front of the house in a rather ghastly way. The sidewalk had a number of chalk outlines, so it looked like CSI had been there... and some of them were a little odd. Eggsplosions!

This morning I was up early cooking up some turkey sausages in water laced with maple syrup, until all the water was gone and the sausages were brown all around. I cooked up onions and peppers, sauteed some grated zucchini, and put each of these items in little bowls. There was some diced up ham, and some bits of leftover curried chicken, some flaked parmesan and grated sweet cheddar. Diced tomato... avocado... a bowl of salsa... The day began with a fiery sky

I nearly slept through it, but a single ring of my phone woke me in time to see the bright orange glow in the east-facing, frosted bathroom window. From there, I grabbed the camera, went to the back door, and grabbed a few shots. I finally got to see Charlie murdered!

His Dinner Detective show was in Pueblo last night, 40 miles south of here. Since it's nighttime, and dark, and I don't know the town at all, we asked if I could be fit into the dinner and audience. There were 300 guests, but they managed to find me a place at one of the tables. There were 9-10 people at each table. The way it works, is this: On entering, each guest creates a fictitious and imaginative nametag to wear for the duration (I went with Ciel LaDarque ) then finds their table. In the... It was not my birthday yesterday

but the knitting circle celebrates on one day, all the birthdays of that month, so yesterday, it was a party for two of us, and each of us got big bags of yarn donated by various others in the group, and much good cheer. The yarns I got vary from very interesting to very... strange. One of my favorites is a thin, mostly red with flecks of other color, a blend of wool and silk, made in Nepal. new hookery project

I've been trying to think of something to make for gifts besides hats. I came up with little crocheted baskets: penny-baskets, candy baskets, dresser-organizer baskets... They are kinda pretty, and a great way to use up the ends of yarns that went into hats! Maybe I will make one for holding all the small skeins and balls of tail-ends of yarns! Frost sparkles

and makes the porch railing look decorated for an event. Inside the glass door there is a new garden, and the zonal geraniums I bought for their lovely autumn colors--they were just about all leaf when I got them last week--have come inside and bloomed. I meant them for the deck out front, but looking up and reading the gardening tips for them, realized they could not be outdoor plants in times of frost and freeze. I think we might wake to a white morning

It was snowing this afternoon up in the mountains, and the sun, still fairly high, shone through a heavy cloud, thick with snow. Funny thing, on the opposite side of the sky, now, the clouds are broken billows, and the nearly full moon rides along like a ship on the waves. So pretty, so hard to capture with my camera and my level of skill. We were working in the yard earlier, shifting the garden boxes and adding a third one.
