The Last Day

It is a Tuesday morning: trash day. The sun is bright, sky clear... temps supposed to reach mid-50s F today. Madame La Darque is on the back porch, flicking her tail about and watching for me to open the door and offer another peanut. On the front deck, little birds of various sorts and sometimes the doves come by to empty the feeder. Generally, it's all very quiet: an ordinary Tuesday. Dramatic skies

After some days of clear blue skies, suddenly the grey clouds moved in with wild winds to shape them, and sunlight to dramatize their textures. What did Santa bring you?

When I was a kid, and when my kids were kids, and now, when their kids are kids, a phone call with the grannies and gramps was always a kind of verbal parade of our new wealth. It's still what we do, but less of bragging and more of sharing... perhaps. We get older, and the things we value most are not things, but thoughts and kindnesses, and getting that someone gets us. A merry morning!

Charlie came over last night after I went to bed, to finish the Christmas decorations, and make a few arrangements. I was good, I didn't peek, though it was hard to get to sleep, and I heard when he came in and when he left. I didn't peek when I woke up at 6 AM. But when 7:15 rolled around, and knowing he'd likely sleep well into the morning, and Violetta was insisting it was time for food, and my stomach was in agreement with her... A little excitement...

I was broiling a couple of burgers, and sauteeing onions and mushrooms on the stove, everything going along nicely... turned to the window to say hello to the lithops there--one shows a hint of new growth! And this is the time of year to water the little things, desert flora that they are. And when I turned around again, there was a fire burning merrily under the saute pan! Well! No salt to dowse it with--I am not going to use my pink Himalayan salt for putting out fires! Besides, it was burning... Sign in to see full entry.

Are you there? Are you coated in ice? I am guessing maybe you lost your electricity. I hope you are home and cozy by candle-light! Likewise our other friends who got iced overnight...
