Looked sad for Charlie

as he had not heard back from The Wild Hunt project. So he sent the woman whom he'd met first, saying even though it turned out they couldn't use him this time, he'd be watching for other opportunities: "You haven't see the last of me!" He got a response almost immediately... paraphrasing... You mean you haven't heard from Bill yet? He particularly mentioned that he wanted to make use of your skills--I gave him your number... How would you like to assist with puppets, props, and masks? He's been... Sign in to see full entry.

Not my house.

I told myself every five minutes that the house was not likely to meet the expectations of the photos--wide-angled and thus skewed so the rooms and yard looked bigger than they are. In fact, that was the case, but not the deal-killer. The house is on a fast 4 lane road, and there is no street parking. None, not even a little! The driveway is short and would only accomodate one vehicle. So much for parties. And that was the deciding issue. We keep on looking. Sign in to see full entry.

More about Mom

Mom was embarrassed, maybe even ashamed that she never quite got the degree in Biology that she studied for, at the University of California, Berkely. I remember she mentioned it once, that she'd come within 3 credits of that degree before having to leave school to raise her baby daughter, Julie, after her husband's death. In fact, if her father--a high profile Washington, DC attorney--had not died when she was finishing high school, she wouldn't have gotten that far because he didn't believe in... Many busy days...

Furniture has been shifting to make room for Christmas... and again, to make room for a nice electric fireplace to fit into a certain corner, necessitating clearing out a long low shelf and the hutch that sits on it, then moving the tv and its table out of the way... and those two items wound up right where the fireplace will go when it gets here next Tuesday. By then the tv will have shifted to the garage. I found a likely listing today for a house. It occured to me, a lot of money goes away... Sign in to see full entry.

Black Lace Knickers

Sometimes, by accident, Mom made a joke, or at least said a thing out of the blue that made us all laugh. Like the time the old, old plastic radio that had delivered morning news and evening news daily throughout the 1960s quit working, and she informed us that "It blew its little guts." On the occasion I write of today, her remark stimulated a response from Dad that was marvelous in our ears because he so rarely let his mouth get him in trouble. I don't remember the lead-up, but it was... Sign in to see full entry.

I remember Mom...

In fact, it was Mom who set me in front of the old TV sometime in the 60s and introduced me to a sweet, funny, poignant movie called I REMEMBER MAMA. This month, I will, from time to time, be rembering Mom who slipped out of this world last Christmas Eve. Today, adventurer2 left me a comment on this post I wrote back in 2008, reminding me that it was there, as well as bringing back to mind the event. Mom's Shining Moment Mom has always been a very practical person, not given to the making of... Sign in to see full entry.

Theater News

Charlie didn't get one of the four male parts in Bill Pullman's THE WILD HUNT, but they will be calling him regarding some of his other relevant skills. Meanwhile, he is currently directing a short piece for a sort of anthology production called Theatregasm, an annual showcase of off-beat one-acts. His is a funny little gem called OYVEH MARIA, about the goings-on in a certain stable when a certain new mother's mother turns up with a casserole and some guilt trips. He didn't write it, though he... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunny Monday

It was, anyway... sunny all day! Last night's snow melted off most of the streets, though ours is always the last to go. I used 4 wheel drive this morning, but not this afternoon. Charlie substitute-taught in the morning, and is up in Denver at the audtions now, or on his way home if he didn't make the next cut. I will be on my own--well, Davy will be here--for Christmas holidays so I thought I would not get a tree this year, just throw a bit of greenery around the railings and this and that.... a night, two mornings and a day...

https://flic.kr/p/BurUci The moon the first night here was full and brilliant, but veiled by the misty mountain clouds. The morning sun in the trees... on the landscapes to the west... a short drive to Hi Meadows, from here at Lo Meadows... This morning's gibbous moon was aglow in the western sky... And birds... What's Thanksgiving without a bit of drama?

We came up here from Colorado Springs yesterday, having heard that today's weather held ice and snow for today, and arrived just before dark. Good thing, too: the way here is long and winding, and without a GPS on board, we'd probably never have arrived at all! It is remote and lovely, but icy roads make travelling dubious. This morning there was no new snow, but icy fog had coated the trees with hoarfrost, and the surrounding pine/fir/aspen forest was enchanted with it. Some deer came by just...
