JUST WHAT DOES FARM WORK HAVE TO DO WITH THE FORBIDDEN?

I have not lost any of my natural enthusiasm when I am excited about something I have to tell somebody. I still envy people who have siblings. They have someone to hold back some of the idiocy that often accompanies unleashed excitement. We had been back in the country for a couple of years and I was working a lot in the store. People had come to trust that I could work well and that I knew what I was doing. The war still raging and there is a shortage of farm hands. It was early spring and the... THEY WILL MAKE YOU SMILE

Donation Father O'Malley answers the phone. 'Hello, is this Father O'Malley?' 'It is!' 'This is the Internal Revenue Service. Can you help us?' 'I can!' 'Do you know a Ted Houlihan?' 'I do!' 'Is he a member of your congregation?' 'He is!' 'Did he donate $10,000 to the church?' 'He will.' Confession An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues: Man: 'I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.... Sign in to see full entry.

MAMA'S JAMMING AGAIN

I could get through the hard part, to enjoy the luscious clumps of jelly over slabs of freshly churned butter on homemade biscuits. This like everything else in Mama’s life was fine-tuned. Ours was a fair sized farm house for that day and was short on storage space. We had a smoke house which allowed a lot of room for extra storage for specific items to do with killing and processing hogs, steers and game but little for household items. Then there was the barn with corn crib and cotton shed... Sign in to see full entry.

IT IS WASH DAY AGAIN

Who do you suppose decided wash day would occur on each and every Monday? Of course it is no longer that way, but when I was a child it was, except on rainy Mondays. Little remains today of the laundry practices as they were done in the time of my childhood. The huge black iron pot’s four legs rest on bricks which form a place for laying a fire. Mom has the fire going and smoke is rising thankfully, it is blowing away from the tub washing area. While the pot heats up and brings the water to a... Sign in to see full entry.

Farmer's Words of Wisdom

Life from the Seat of a Tractor. It would seem that we all need to be reminded of these powerful words of wisdom from time to time... “Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.” “Keep skunks, politics, and bankers at a distance.” “Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.” “A riled honeybee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.” “Words that soak into your ears are whispered…not yelled.” “Meanness don't just happen overnight.” “Forgive your enemies; it messes... DAMNED BONE BUTTONS

"DAMNED BONE BUTTONS, WHAT WILL THAT WOMAN DO NEXT?" Mama, I am sure you know now. I don't think you did know why daddy was mad or upset about things unless it was something that would cost him too much money or embarrassment. I did not understand how your clothes would embarrass him they were just the best but he was often questioning them to say the least. You could take a cheap piece of fabric and turn it into a stunning outfit but give you a piece of cloth with a good hand, an elegant color... Sign in to see full entry.

YOUR'RE PRETTY AS A SPECKLED PUP

YOU’RE PRETTY AS A SPECKLED PUP It was Sunday morning, same as any other Sunday morning Mama was gearing all movement toward church. All the chores that go on any morning on a Southern farm were done. A pig sized breakfast was finished, dishes washed and back in the cupboard tidy as could be; because you never knew who might come home with you for Sunday dinner. The church was not yet a hundred years old but it was filled to the brim with family and a few oddities every Sunday. One of those... Sign in to see full entry.

Who Knew

There is junk and there is junk as all know. Maybe you don't but I have to let my blogs go sometimes for a few days before I can write something to fill them. Then I grab junk as I just did on the last one and fill the void. Now that is different junk than the junk I write right out of my very own head. It really surprised me when Utah Jay wrote an answer in the loud colors and all stuffed together of each of those questions. That was a surprise, a joy that he would give such time to my blog and... I can't can you?

. QUESTIONS YOU JUST CAN'T ANSWER Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard when he lives in the jungle without a razor? Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are flat? Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough? Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet? Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word 'lisp'? What is the speed of... THIS AND OTHER VARIOUS AND SUNDRY STUFF

I seem to be slow about anything I am doing lately. I also have adopted a busier schedule, go figure. I have been working on my office trying to collect those things I would like to keep that I wrote and toss the other. Of course I must read it all, none seems worth keeping after I read it. I am totally amazed at what I read. I can say I am sure I have been taken many times because what I read as authentic stuff often is written by credible journalist who are paid to do this, yet they must be... THINGS THEY ARE A CHANGING

It would be interesting, at least to me, to know just how many things and how strongly in both our physical and mental being as we come of age. The real coming of age is after what we call retirement. I would never have retired but the changes took place first. The first of course is when your highest level of desirability changes or becomes mature and less appealing to the masses. This signals your inability to reproduce in kind. This is more pronounced in the female. Of course many say it is... Sign in to see full entry.

TAKE A TRIP OR TWO

I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone ~ you have to be in Cahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore. I've been in Flexible, but... Sign in to see full entry.

NEW YEAR I REGRESS

I am back working on my book of some time past this year. Someone had asked me to reprint this again and here it is. I hope you like it. WHITE MOUNTAIN SERPENT WITH FLASHING BLUE EYES That Blue Eyed White Mountain Serpent If a mountain dweller came upon a straight road they would more than likely sit and stare, wondering just how far it went, of if it would disappear if they left it there. On Raccoon Mountain plateau the ground was rolling, sandy and fertile but the roads were as curvy as those... Sign in to see full entry.

2011 IS OOZING OUT UNDER THE DOOR AND AWAY FOREVER

This has been a wonderful year with friends here on Blogit. There have been some painful issues across the board. Some of you have taken time out for extended periods and some have been the wonderful broad backup for all the downfalls. I have lovely friends I can look in the eye, enjoy a conversation, a meal, a laugh and some sort of charity effort. I am not sure if the physical presence is not as high a difference as the reality of those on here that one comes to love. I worry when you have... Sign in to see full entry.

TO EACH HIS OWN

MERRY CHRISTMAS I hope this time of year is such a blessing to you and to your family and friends. So many of you on here actually feel like close friends to me and some even like family. This time of year means so much to me. Not the rituals of spending, giving or getting presents even if that is a part of the joy; the remembrance of how God gave us an option to join our Hebrew brothers and sisters is a blessing beyond compare to me. I am delighted that none of you who are not Christians have... Sign in to see full entry.

THIS IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR WITH QUESTIONS

I want to know a bit about your thinking. If my child went to a school or college where they presented a concert monthly and all students were required to attend and my child was made uncomfortable by music do you believe he has a right, or even could, to complain to the authorities to stop this thing that makes him uncomfortable? My thought is that it is totally ridiculous that one person would or could change the actions of a whole school because of discomfort. I do believe the school would... Sign in to see full entry.

IT IS OVER I AM HOME

I saw were someone thought we were selling goods, no. We just built a village with the sorts of shops we thought Bethalem would have had at the time of the birth of Christ and people came through to see and hear about the goods. Outside we had all sorts of animals for the children to pet, ride or just look at. We had a woman weaving linen and wool. Two of us did herbs and spices and we had an in a carpentry shop. A bread machine well hidden but frequently loaves appeared and people were given... Sign in to see full entry.

GOING TO BE IN BETHLEHEM A FEW DAYS

Our church is having in a series of a single event for three days. It is called a Night in Bethlehem where shops etc. are set up to represent what we think that night might have been like. Each place has a bit of the story to tell and gifts etc. for the children. I am running the herb shop. I am the seller of medicines and cooking spices with information on them. I will be busy for three days and will only be here part of the time. Thank you for knowing I am not going to write but I will sneak... Sign in to see full entry.

ITHOUGHT IT GOOD TO TEST ALL THOSE WHO COME MY WAY NOW!

IDIOT SIGHTING I feel like a VALEDICTORIAN!!!!! I handed the teller at my bank a withdrawal slip for $400.00 I said "May I have large bills, please." She looked at me and said, "I'm sorry sir, all the bills are the same size." When I got up off the floor I explained it to her... ____________________________________________ IDIOT SIGHTING When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and... Sign in to see full entry.
