When we are young the world seems too big to grasp the things parents went through! And then we do them and it's a whole new perspective! I learned the same with canning! sam

Well it was a long time ago and this is written about the country scene. At the time it was considered the most vastly populated rural area in the country as the radio declard daily. We had a country store where almost nobody traded during the daytime. Most people came in the very early evening when they were through with their day time work and on Saturdays.

How do we forget so easily Justi my mother used to have pails of eggs in water-glass it was called. I think it was a national hobby to preserve fruits and such as there were no imports of fruits only the occasional orange and banana. Of course not on the scale your Ma'ma did she was starting a factory nearly. Would it not have been nice to have had plastic sacks to store your jars,it would saved a lot of scouring.

What a great post, it is almost a perfect picture of my childhood as mother canned, fruit, vegetables, fish and of course jams and jellies, she even made grape juice from the grapes out in the grape arbor. Now, like you I have taken up both the gardening and the canning just as you have. Thank you so much Justi for this post card from the past.

You enjoy it now - and you do an excellent and delicious assortment to boot!! I know from experience! I washed those darned jars too, more than I want to remember. I don't think there was 1000 of them, but it felt like it at the time. Love these posts, Justi - bring back many memories.
