Moving in...

As of today, I have a place of my own, and the great Moving In Operation is underway. Many pictures have been taken of the place after the cleanup and a day will come when I get them up on flickr, along with the ones of how it looks with the curtains and all. I was going to get the curtains up first, but it hasn't worked out that way. It is dark outside and light inside, but this will be amended before long. Nails... where did I put the nails, and hooks and all, to hang the brackets...? Well,... Sign in to see full entry.

More on the dog man

In a few hours after the confrontation, Charlie had shared it with his world on Facebook, and we began to learn a few things. One of his theater friends responded, because she knows the guy, used to be his neighbor, and warned us that he has a hair-trigger temper, and carries a gun when he walks his dogs. He spends his days listening to Rush Limbaugh, hates the government and routinely calls senators to belabor them about whatever is on his mind. He never was in the military. We now know his... Dog Guy

He walks two German Short-hair Pointers, every day, off-leash, as if the community rules don't apply to him. First times I saw him, he was in military camo fatigues, and that, I admit, set my teeth on edge, for reasons I won't go into, but they are my baggage, and really had nothing to do with him. On a day when my dog, Davy, was in the yard, barking at this guy and his dogs, because he barks at passers-by--unless they ignore him, or make friendly overtures--he did not just pass by, did not... Inspired by Dancin Grandma's post today

I wrote this early one traveling day, while I waited for breakfast at a small and homey cafe in a small town in Montana. Pioneer Cafe, Montana Morning Ladies of a certain age girls no more except in the heart: What Life has given you have taken despite the dreams you had, despite intentions and resistance; Age acquiring resilience for survival's sake when life is hard or dull beyond endurance. Power in the circle around the cafe table every morning every day except Sundays, maybe: Ladies, old... Sign in to see full entry.

The Big Deal Dinner

Every year, one of the star profs/directors of the theater department at UCCS, Kevin Landis, hosts a dinner for visiting and local theater people. This year's guests will be Murray Ross, the artistic director of Theaterworks, the theater company sponsored by UCCS, two of the University chancellors connected also with the theater, and Oskar Eustis, the artistic director of The Public Theater, in New York City, who will be visiting then. Each year, one or two students are invited to this dinner:... Sign in to see full entry.

Another Opening Night!

The show is NEXT FALL, a story of love and denial, love because of, love despite. Charlie plays the role of the father of a young man who is in the hospital after being hit by a car. He's a bit of a tyrant, a bit belligerent--a man who has succeeded in life, but you can see he's put up with a lot, and resents it. He's a manly man, however, and knows how to take charge and keep his feelings behind a wall of manly fortitude. He thinks what he thinks and he knows what he knows. What he doesn't... How to treat a bare naked window

Today I found a set of curtains--new, in packages, not thrifty stuff--that set the tone for the new bedroom. They are silver white and grey... like winter branches, grey on white, or white on grey, depending which side you're looking at. They'll go over the sliding glass doors to the deck, which is all the window the bedroom has. Later, I came across a round mirror, about a foot in diameter, set in a dull-silver moon-face frame. Perfect! There is some beautiful fabric for another window, a... Sign in to see full entry.

Maybe in a week...

The painting upstairs is done, and the low kitchen cabinet door with the boot-hole in it has been replaced. The vinyl tile in the foyer of this split-level will be replaced. And the obnoxious vertical blinds--the plastic rattles in every breeze from outside or heat vent or summer fan--will stay down, and be stored away in the garage. This means, I will need curtains right away, or be the neighborhood TV show at night. Sooo... rods and fabric are next on the list of to-be-made-ready. The kitchen... Sign in to see full entry.

New fish in the stream...

the photostream, that is... Today I went to get a little fish net, I will tell you why, soon. And I spotted this fine fellow, and had to bring him home. I did have an empty container... He is sitting on the kitchen window sill. Not mine, yet, but soon they will all swim over to my place which is still being repaired and cleaned. In the meantime... http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ Sign in to see full entry.

Under the weather...

Here's hoping all our Blogit friends hit by this massive snow storm are home safe and warm, and have all they need to get through this latest weather slam. Kabu and Wiley are probably tucked up in their basement, keeping Mr Graysome comfy. JimmyA, and everyone, I hope you still have the power. Stay safe! Sign in to see full entry.
