The Ghost of Garbo...

"I vant to be alone!" she says in that sultry accent, looking provocatively over her shoulder in a cloche hat, blonde hair perfectly coiffed, perhaps waving a cigarette in a long black holder. She was a prime example of Hollywood's art deco era, when the movies became talkies. Whether or not she... Sign in to see full entry.

Nitty gritty grout day.

Guy came over to grout the tile, but could not seem to work with the float. In case you're not a tile-setter and are unfamiliar with the process, you start out with something called mastic. You spread a coat of it on the wall with this flat wide ladle-blade that has notches on one edge and a handle... Sign in to see full entry.

It's gonna be busy next week.

Next Tuesday's my first moring as a volunteer at the community center. Wednexday I have the dentist in the a.m. and there's a writer's group meeting scheduled for the evening. And Thursday I'm due at Great Clips for a perm. And that evening, looking my best and with the proper choppers to enjoy it... Sign in to see full entry.

Correction

Dentist or his appointment scheduler made a mistake. No extraction today, just a fitting of the partial, and an adjustment to it after setting it in place. He wouldn't go ahead and do the extraction, even though I'd stopped my blood thinner prescr for a couple days. Next week, he says. No room in... Sign in to see full entry.

Tiling the shower walls, part 2

It's one of those 'details' that makes the job or breaks it. If the tiles are lined up level they look good. If not, you think the tile-setter took one too many beer breaks. It will all look perfect once the grout goes on, but the back wall took my daughter the better part of Friday, and Joe and... Sign in to see full entry.

Love, Falling Into It...

Have you ever tumbled ankles over teakettle into overwhelming, obsessive, devil-take-the-hindmost love? Ever once looked at someone and just knew this was forever, that mountains would fall away, the ocean would dry up, but this love was here to stay? Nope, neither have I. I was maybe close to it a... Back to normal -- whatever that is.

For no apparent reason we've been blessed with perfect resort weather for the past week or ten days. Highs in the upper 70's or low 80's, slight breezes, the occasional fair-weather clouds floating cheerfully above. At night it gets almost chilly, into the lower 50's and at twilight on the porch... Joy and Sorrow are Brothers...

When one is sleeping in your bed, the other sits at your table. (Khalil Gibran) My grandson Joe Jr. is a big tough Marine, two tours of duty under his belt, Kosovo and Iraq - he's now a training Sgt. assigned to a base in California. He and his beautiful wife have been married most of the time he's... Sign in to see full entry.

First day of school...

Where did the summer go? When I was a kid the summer stretched endlessly – it was the yellow brick road to Oz. On rainy days I used to hide out in the woodshed and read a book, safely out of mom’s sight. Some mornings we’d take long hikes, climb down the bank at the bridge and follow deer tracks... Side effects of renovating a bathroom

Until we got around to the curb appeal and bathroom projects, I've been sitting. At the computer except for bathroom breaks and a time out to watch "Days" or Judge Judy, accompanied by a snack. I felt useless, unmotivated, let things slide. In the time since I lost 20 pounds about a year and a half... Sign in to see full entry.
