The Family is at home

... where the bed is wide and accomodating, unlike the narrow hospital bed with no rails where a new mom can't sleep properly for constant fear someone might fall off the edge! Oliver, Marika, and Elsa Jane are enjoying the quiet time alone together, resting and recovering and feeling all family-like. I just made a donation in honor of the oc casion to the International Rescue Commitee https://help.rescue.org/donate?ms=bg_brnd_evrg_best_es_161110&initialms=bg_brnd_evrg_best_es_161110 to help... Midnight Baby!

Baby Girl Bell made her entrance last night! I've seen a photo from Daddy's phone, and heard that everyone did great and is doing well, but no other details yet. Grandma here is very pleased, of course, and Uncle Charlie, as well. I'll let you know more tomorrow when I hear the whole tale. O Frabjous Day! Later... I just had a 20 minute chat with Marika who sounds quite exhausted. It was a 20-hour labor and was pretty intense. Elsa was born at 10:55 last night, weighing in at just over 6 lbs.... Sunday afternoon sunshine

Here I am sitting in the lately rearranged living room--newly accomodating the High Place of Embers, the tv shifted from its corner to make room for the Yule Village--after another trip out to the DressUp Box to add crocheted hats and pouches, and several pair of Victorian style shoes, then a quick lunch at Panera. As I sit and crochet, Embers finds both the thick chenille yarn and the knobby end of the nice wooden crochet hook quite interesting, so it's a kind of joint amusement. She doesn't do... Saturday...

The water flows again after a warmer day yesterday, and remembering to leave the tap on over the freezy night again. Embers' vet check was satisfactory: Vet was pleased with her surgical sites and was not terribly concerned about the sneezing or the unusually loose stool, a sample of which she conveniently provided on the unsettling journey from safe warm home to strange unpleasant places. Because of her age, if there is anything going on, I am having them go ahead and test so we will know asap,... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday already?!

At 8am, it's 6F/-14.44444...C with tiny flakes of snow in the air. Accumulation since it began Tuesday night is still only around 1 inch on my back porch railing, so that gives you an idea how tiny the flakes are, and how not-trying-very-hard this snowing is. The street outside is still white, though probably the main roads are clear just from use. These back streets, especially ours, lose their snow only very slowly as long as the cold lasts. But I will have to go out today anyway. I forgot to... Sign in to see full entry.

Busy day

There was thrift store shopping today, netting a number of interesting costume-shop items, and some of odd personal interest. it is time to put out some more neckties on the rack at the shop, and I also found some for the Tie Cloak Project. Have you ever seen a tie cloak? It is made entirely of neckties that have been opened up and sewn edge to edge. I have been accumulating ties in several different color-pallets and one of these days, I will start actually putting them together. Some makers... Sign in to see full entry.

Snow dreams

Reading of Kabu's and Wiley's snowy wonderland that fell quietly overnight, I remembe that magic of midnight snows coming down heavy, glowing with dispersed town lighting so it is bright enough to walk about, stomping down the squeaky snow, strolling in the magic of it all. I once woke Charlie when he was maybe 7 or 8, going for that midnight snowstorm amble. Even in the city, the blanket of white, before it turns grey and dirty, worn out and full of slush, covers over the bleakness of concrete,... Sign in to see full entry.

Any time now...

Marika's due any time now, has had a few Braxton-Hicks contractions already--just practicing! And she feels quite ready. There was an issue that might have indicated C-section, but that has resolved itself, and everyone is glad about that. She saw me up around 9pm my time, which was around 4am her time, and messaged me, unable to sleep. Part of it is the getting up three times a night to pee a teaspoon--anyone who has given birth knows whereof I speak: With a belly full of baby, there is not... Sign in to see full entry.

Christmas is really coming...

It begins to feel like it, with snow coming down, snow flakes dancing on the wind! Errands to run, business to attend to, and then perhaps I will begin to get into it, into the spirit, the quiet excitement of the early December days. Ravel's BOLERO, currently on the radio, is illustrative: starting slow and quietly but packed with intent that gradually reveals itself, culminating in a frenzy of rhythm and music. Years ago, when I was around 6 or 7, I remember my dad teaching us to hear musical... Sign in to see full entry.
