Our librarian receives advance copies of books for review - things written by new authors mostly - "uncorrected proofs" and not for sale. These are usually first novels, portents of things to come if they get good reviews, end of the line if they don't. Since I'm nosy as any Parker ever wanted to... Sign in to see full entry.

Food or Serendipity
The first Write Your Own Story topic/hint for Thursday's class was food: favorite meals when you were growing up, a typical meal at your grandma's house, holiday gatherings, or how it's different now. If you didn't want to scribble for half an hour about food, the alternate topic was serendipity -... Sign in to see full entry.

What's in a name?
Someone said "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." But that's only part of the story. Whether you call someone 'sweetheart' or 'shithead' depends on what just happened a flash-bang second ago. And their reaction to one of these pet names can be wildly divergent. I'm just sayin'. So, back... Sign in to see full entry.

Disturbed
Donald is making me crazy. Wild fiction spouted as though it's informed opinion: lies, damn lies, nothing backed up by fact, statistics, research. What's with the GOP? Have the campaign managers lost their minds? Putting up a hard- hearted, people hating blathering fool to carry their political... Sign in to see full entry.

There's a lot of that going around...
Three - or was it four? - weeks ago, JoAnn S. had a fall at home, and was taken to the emergency room. Cracked her head, hurt her arm, no idea why she lost her balance. A day later she was at The Center as usual to help out around the kitchen and deliver one of the Meals on Wheels routes - 5 or six... Sign in to see full entry.

The last of our line
Sandy J. is a fixture in our town - a tall, lean woman of African descent who is known for her bright smile, sweet voice and her love of children. For as long as I can remember she has been a crossing guard, faithful in all weather, making sure the children cross safely to and from school. She may... Sign in to see full entry.

Passive-aggressive "friends" are hard to escape
I was an hour into my shift at the Library yesterday. Checked out the napkin dispenser, made sure the coffee maker had water, there were cups, cream & sugar packets. I put the books someone had set up on stands all over the counter back on the shelf. I've left notes about how unfriendly and... Sign in to see full entry.

Facebook Fails
The main reason I go on FB is to see pics of my great granddaughters posted by my grandson's wife Nicole. Nic is a talented photographer, she copyrights her photos with her logo. She learned the art of composition, lighting, setting, etc., as she went, when baby Kaitlin was new. My Marine grandson... Sign in to see full entry.

Mystery of the Three Bibles
The first Bible I found while sorting out donations did not strike me as anything out of the ordinary. It was in a box of books donated to The Center, along with half a shelf’s worth of inspirational writings by famous theologians. There were how-to books on managing a congregation, etc. Bible #1, a... Sign in to see full entry.
