Couple weeks ago there was a small crew working on my next door neighbor’s house. They’d tuck-pointed the chimney and patched the stucco, did some painting to refresh the green trim along the back sunporch windows and painted the house white. I had noticed the guys working, but I had hats to... Sign in to see full entry.

Funny how it works...
Funny strange, not funny ha-ha. Sometimes the way everything is connected is invisible to us, and we don't see the links at all. And sometimes we get one of those aha! moments when it's patently obvious. This past couple of weeks I've been thinking of how to organize the writing group at The Center... The Tangled Web We Weave...
It's not as simple as cheating. Bob and Joann ARE divorced after all, and have been so for seven or eight years. But Joann has Alzheimer's, and despite the legal severance of the spousal stuff, they've shared a domicile. It's not for the sake of the children - Bob is 80 and Joann a few years... Ballroom Dancing
I’m reading a book titled “Ballroom” written by Alice Simpson, first novel by an artist, a teacher of drawing and design at The New School. This edition is an uncorrected proof, “not for sale.” It was sent as a publisher’s sample to the library in hope of receiving feedback and an order for the book... Sign in to see full entry.

About the memoir writing...
TAPS asked if we have computers or if we write by hand - In our group most of the writers don't have laptops, so we write in ruled notebooks. There's something about writing by hand that differs from the act of keyboarding - don't know whether or not it is better from a quality of communications... Sign in to see full entry.

In a place of trust
At the Center: Write Your Own Story We met on Thursday. Only four of us showed up, Victoria, Lois, Bill and me. We’d already discussed a bit about the day’s topic. The choices were an item from the list under “Blessings of Adversity” or “Home.” Under “Home” were writing points such as “Have you ever... Sign in to see full entry.

It's high time the powers that be legalize pot...(or is it?)
Some proponents claim weed is much better as a lubricant for socializing than hooch of any kind, because those who soak up alcohol can turn mean - while cannibis has a mellowing effect. (Overuse = weight gain in either case.) There was a joke going around a long time ago about smoking. "Any coward... Sign in to see full entry.

TED talks, Pat questions...
There's a new thing (new to me at least) that came up about a year ago: TED talks. Now I cannot describe their purpose and scope the way their website can, so get your Google going and look 'em up. T: technology, E: (I forget, maybe entertainment), D: Design. The thing is, they're 17 or 18 minutes... Sign in to see full entry.

Just Do It.
The Nike company has quite a philosophy in that slogan. "Just Do It!" could well be the thing we need to hear when we get on one of those journeys of the mind that would point us to a fork in the road. There we go, thinking "The one less traveled by," (Frost) or "When you see a fork in the road,... Sign in to see full entry.

Proposal -- (not the happily-ever-after kind)
My memoir writing group has been talking up the idea of setting up a similar class for creative writing - stories, poetry, etc. and not just telling our own stories. Some visitors at The Center who've talked with me have said they'd sign up for that, but they didn't think anyone would be interested... Sign in to see full entry.
