I do think you worked a lot harder than I remember working. Oh, I did things like feeding the chickens and picking green beans from the garden and washing quart jars when mom was ready to can tomatoes and beets and things and hanging clothes on the lines on washday....I'm thinking of more and more things I had forgotten as I go along. Maybe I could compete with you. LOL

We had some 'DeGroots' walking our school road home too. In those days it wasn't common to tattle to parents or teachers - the bullies would make you pay double the next time you got caught. Great posts, Pat-B!

We had a border collie when I was just little. She was dad's woring dog but she loved me. When I cried...which I did very loudly every morning over my breakfast, lady would howl outside.
I can just picture it, you kids in the house having a wonderful time and the over excited dogs under the house having to join in somehow and the phone lines copped it.

About this business with the De Groots: it may be a little late now, but I'm surprised your Mom didn't get in touch with their parents and/or the school...
