Just the sort of enviroment kids needed Pat. Of course you poor mother had to scrape for every penny or cent. No wonder she was touchy, it was a tremendous strain no doubt. Somehow I always admired your mother.

It sounds much like the farm that Bird and I lived on when we were kids. The routine too, except we had no milking machine -it was all done by hand, I still love the smell of a barn. Great posts, Pat-B!

Love it! I too learned to milk a cow on my uncle's farm! And I drove a tractor and even plowed with it when I was thirtenn...

The milking shed fascinated me because it was similiar to our milking shed. The girls used to line up in order as well and they too got their tin cup full of treat. Dad used to sell the cream so the other side of the building held a separating machine. I saw one here in our local town in a second hand store recently and though I was just a kid, I could tell the store owner exactly how it worked.
