I've come into a desert place, a void where no thoughts grow. There's a story aching to be written; what it is I do not know. Idea's bones, they lie a-drying in the burning desert sun. Where are rhyme, image, metaphor? There's not a single one to carry any hint of inspiration to my pen. O' when will... Sign in to see full entry.

Celebration
Today would be my mother's 110th birthday. She was born in 1906, passed away at 93 in January 1999. She was an avid reader, and it was not unusual for people to ask where she went to college. She collected books on art/technique, history, biography. Her father died of typhoid fever when she was ten... Sign in to see full entry.

Blurbs & a Bit of a Mystery
Friend of mine on FB posted shots of her hubby taken during the GOP debate on Fox. He's a history teacher, and his ohmigod, slap-to-the-forehead in disbelief gestures tell me all I want to know about the program. Gee, I missed it. Aw, shucks... (wink, wink) I did catch Jon Stewart's farewell program... Sign in to see full entry.

First Tuesday at The Center
The A1C test was a new thing to me when the nurse from Alton Memorial first came to administer the free ones at the Center. Perhaps they'd done glucose levels along with other diagnostics all along when I went in for routine exams. It was interesting to find out that a single drop of blood from a... Bitter Betty...
For the most part, Betty the bitcher has stopped visiting the Center. She's missed the last A1C blood testing day - First Tuesday of July. I'm speculating she's due to get another this month - today. Last time she was here she complained long and loud, harangued me with questions nobody could... Sign in to see full entry.

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings...
Lorman R. is 88 years old, a tall, thin gray-haired dude who wears plaid shirts tucked neatly into well-fitting Levi’s. His hair is neatly trimmed, he moves quickly, gets up out of his chair without making that old man sound, and he has an eye for the ladies. Except when Sharon H. is around. “I’ve... The Haves and the Have-nots...
On NPR yesterday one of their regular Saturday feature programs explored the racism question, or at least one facet of it: the clash between cops and blacks. The clumsy and heavy-handed use of force against unarmed motorists, pedestrians, etc., has been all too much in the headlines for a year now.... Sign in to see full entry.

On Second Thought
I wrote a carefully thought-out essay about "Bill Cosby Syndrome." You can imagine what the focus was: the way entitled men take advantage of their position. It's not a topic I like to think about, let alone post here on Blogit. So I deleted my brilliant and insightful commentary about the fact that... Sign in to see full entry.

Drama Teacher, Conciliator
You can Google Tawnya Pettiford-Wates at her new(er) job - a professor teaching drama at a prestigious east-coast university. When I knew her she was the drama teacher at Seattle Central Community College, (SCCC) located on Broadway in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle. Capitol Hill is the Castro...
