Wednesday evening

Clear air all day, cool and sweet autumn comes breezing in! Temps were down to 36F overnight, 75 this afternoon. The next several nights will be moderately cool, but the forecasts look safe for putting the tender plants back out onto the deck. So it's a colorful garden again, though not quite the same as before. I heard a new squawk today! Someone was in the maple tree making quite a fuss for several minutes. When it flew, still squawking, across the street, it looked like blue jay! Not a... Sign in to see full entry.

Autumn pleasures

Chilly, mostly sunny here this morning. Suddenly, it's fall! But not actually cold enough yet to turn the leaves on the trees. And it will get a little warmer again so the garden on the deck can be reinstated. And just because the summer flower season is coming to a close, doesn't mean I am not still grabbed by some blooming beauties outside the grocery store... Found a gorgeous dahlia yesterday, and some bright red echinaceas! And inside the store, some humongous artichokes! Three of them are... Sign in to see full entry.

Just like flipping a switch...

Autumn creeps in on soft midnight toes... The temps overnight were going to be 40 or lower, so we brought in the tender plants from the deck garden, and now the deck looks rather stark, and I can't see the dining room table. The cat tree is also adorned with plants! One of the doves flies in occasionally, sits on the nest and for a few minutes calls out its low, come-hither coo. But the other does not go thither. I wonder what they think of the vanished garden. Embers is pretty much back to her... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, what a beautiful morning...!

The mountains are visible, the air is crystal-clear this morning! I was kinda sick last night--something I ate. And Embers cuddled up while I lay sleeping/not-sleeping for several hours. But like the air, today all's bright and clear-headed, and I'm feeling fine! I hear birds all around outside, and some murmurs from the 'keets to my left. One of the doves flew in to coo-coo-coo for a little while, and the dickie-birds are enjoying the re-filled feeder. Temps dipped into the 40s overnight, but... Sign in to see full entry.

End of the day

It has been such a lovely day, weather-wise! Temps in the mid-70s, roving thunderstorms in the afternoon. Embers is doing so much better, eating well, drinking well, and socializing. A week ago she was mostly hiding out in a dark little corner, out of sight. Now she is back to her attention-demanding ways, and sleeping with me most of the night. Today, finally, I made the calls and took care of the business I've been shying away from for a while. So, they are no longer hanging me over me like... Sign in to see full entry.

Morning and Monday

Sun is coming up with clear light shining on the mountains. It will be hot today, but thunderstorms are a maybe in the afternoon. Overnight was in the 50s. Embers is breathing better after several days of sneezing and stuffy-nose wheezing. She is eating her crumbled kibble, and taking her meds with funny cat faces, but no real resistance. I was afraid there was going to be another trip to the vet today, but she is clear-eyed and the congestion seems better. She is more sociable, and has come... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday preview

Well, Embers is eating again, just a bit. She has a couple of meds to aid appetite, maybe they are working. It may have also helped that I took the mortar and pestle and reduced some of her lentil-sized kibble to smaller crumbs. Probably both. Anyway, I am glad to see her face down in the food dish from time to time. But now--she is snuffling and sneezing! So, another thing to speak to the vet about tomorrow. I am still pondering that parcel of land... Have spoken with my son-in-law who has... Sign in to see full entry.

Home from TED

Well, that was fun! I should mention, this was a TED X event: a slate of speakers from 10am to 3:30 pm, organized and presented by Metropolitan State University in Denver. They will edit footage of the event they made, and send it to the TED 'mothership' in NY where it will be assessed and at least portions of it, possibly published. There were talks on many topics, all speaking to the theme of the day: Ready to Rise. Not rising up as in revolution, but personally: rising to your own potential,... Sign in to see full entry.

TED talk today!

We are off early today, driving to Denver to our friend's TED talk! Embers is over by the glass door to the back porch, waiting for the sun to break through some light clouds and a filter of smokey haze. We don't have the Golden Hour here, morning or evening. It is more like the Copper Hour. It will be mid-90s today, They say, then sliding down to 70s and rain next Tuesday. Same day as the vote in California, whether to recall Gov Newsome and replace him with a deeply conservative Republican,... Sign in to see full entry.

Sun going down on Thursday...

The morning was cool, and I closed the bedroom door to the deck early, to hold in the coolth. It is 90 outside, but a little lower in there. When the temps outside are lower, the door will open again, and the fan will blow that air into the bedroom, and bring it to a proper sleeping level. I remember miserable nights when I was a kid, with tropical heat and humidity, and lying awake for hours. Today Charlie and I drove out to look at a piece of land, almost 5 acres, with trees and pasture, that... Sign in to see full entry.
