April Fools... No Joke!

April 1st... but I have no foolishness to perpetrate today, at least not deliberately. The sun is shining bright, no clouds to obscure it. The day starts near freezing, but we are promised spring warmth later, and for the next week or more--so, the plants that have over-wintered in the house are now heading out to bask on the back porch. Tuesday Report

Cold outside today, with snow... Just a few flurries of big flakes, hardly anything accumulating. I can't bring myself to take it seriously, not after the previous near-foot deep snows that melted in a day. The doves are huddled on the nest, keeping babies warm and cozy, I have no doubt. I've been watching/not watching MIDSOMER MURDERS, in its many seasons--18 altogether, I think. There is one bit of trivia that I'm making sure of this time through. Any fans in our midst? Garden days on the horizon!

The morning sunlight is shining through the back sliding glass door, glowing through the leaves of all the plants that have been sitting on the table there. They're the herbs and a few other things that came in with the approaching frosts of autumn. Now, seeing this sunlight well into morning, I am suddenly aware that it is very nearly time for them to return outdoors. The Day Between

Considering with weary heart and jaded eye all the stacks and racks and knicks and knacks, that loom left over and left undone from yesterdays and yesterweeks, last month, last season, even all a lifetime's matters still requiring answers and corrections and response... Winter, still throwing fits...!

...And it is still snowing--gentle, big flakes with the temps around freezing. I'd make a guess of ~10-12 inches on the porch rails where Madame LaDarque used to dance... https://flic.kr/s/aHskSAfXRu Anyone who was disappointed in last weekend's Snowmageddon must be happy now! "...And one more thing!"

The morning began sunny and warmish... but by noon it was grey and chilly. I went around turning on lights in the house, fighting the on-coming gloom. And now it is snowing. There are rumor of inches, even double-digit inches, over the next several days. Winter just hates to quit, to leave quietly with due grace and dignity. But something great happened just when the rain turned to snow: I had company! A friend of mine who is a teacher of elementary school kids got her vaccination a while back,... Beautiful spring day in the neighborhood...!

According to forecasts, Saturday will be balmy, and there's nothing flake-like in the foreseeable future. This, in country that has had great snowfalls on Mother's Day twice since I've lived here! I prepped a pot today to receive the next up and coming avocado sprout. It already has some complex roots, and the sprout itself is more than an inch above the seed. After the snowfall

The official word on our local snowfall is 8 inches, an average, I guess, considering how the winds redistributed it in drifts and bare patches. The temperatures have been up and down all weekend, never getting below 20F, and rising up to 40F even while the snow was falling. So--icicles! https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C As to the birds... Snowmageddon...?

It is snowing and blowing here, and because of the wind and drifts, it's hard to say exactly how much has fallen in Colorado Springs this weekend by looking out the window, though the official word is 7-8 inches so far. Accumulation on the street outside is several inches deep, but the black pavement shows through the tracks of traffic. From what I can see, more active streets are mostly just wet and black.
