New babies: acalypha

I haven't seen it anywhere for years: a-ka-LIFE-ah, red chenille plant! I found two of them to bring home a couple of days ago. It is of tropical origins, and loves high humidity and ever-damp but draining soils. That's what I learned today, looking up the how-to-care-for details. I imagine it isn't common in Colorado which is noted for its not-tropical climate. In fact, humidity can get to single digits here in summer. So, probably here, a great bathroom plant! Other than that... It's Monday.... Sign in to see full entry.

Garden time

All the flowers and vegies plants are enjoying the morning sun from the vantage of the dining room table and the floor. https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C I'm glad to share them with you! Sign in to see full entry.

Organizing plants and TIME

Wind is up today, plants are safe inside, basking in sunlight through the back glass door. The re-organizing to make space for them led to other efforts, finding better places for all the stuff previously in that space. So now, the family photos that were on a particular high shelf are now in a wooden chest I found a couple of weeks ago at a thrift store; the cookbooks that came out of the pantry shelves a while ago, and sat on the dining room table are now up on that shelf, along with a stack... Spring Winter Spring Winter... SPRING!

Of course, just as soon as I believe in spring, and buy vegie starts and live flowers, we get the forecast for below-freezing nights for the next week or more. So the indoor spaces are prepared, or nearly, to receive them this evening after we have all enjoyed short-sleeve weather here for days and days! The mini-doves are feathered out now, and look like their parents though a third the size. In another couple of weeks, I expect they will be flying, and the adults will be fidgetting with the... I've gone and done it...!

Dragged myself nearer to the Modern Age: I am finally giving up the flip phone for a smart phone. My son's phone is on its last leg, and there was a pretty good (cheap) deal through Consumer Cellular for two lines with unlimited talk and that other thing--texting, which I don't do much of if any at all. My finger tips don't fit the tiny keyboard very well. And it has enough memory for wifi and photos and such on the plan we chose, though if we go over, it will just switch us up to the next plan... April Fools... No Joke!

April 1st... but I have no foolishness to perpetrate today, at least not deliberately. The sun is shining bright, no clouds to obscure it. The day starts near freezing, but we are promised spring warmth later, and for the next week or more--so, the plants that have over-wintered in the house are now heading out to bask on the back porch. I mentioned I've been binging on MIDSOMER MURDERS, and finally started on season 13 last night. This morning--suddenly, can't watch it without ads unless I buy... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday Report

Cold outside today, with snow... Just a few flurries of big flakes, hardly anything accumulating. I can't bring myself to take it seriously, not after the previous near-foot deep snows that melted in a day. The doves are huddled on the nest, keeping babies warm and cozy, I have no doubt. I've been watching/not watching MIDSOMER MURDERS, in its many seasons--18 altogether, I think. There is one bit of trivia that I'm making sure of this time through. Any fans in our midst? It has to do with one... Sign in to see full entry.

Garden days on the horizon!

The morning sunlight is shining through the back sliding glass door, glowing through the leaves of all the plants that have been sitting on the table there. They're the herbs and a few other things that came in with the approaching frosts of autumn. Now, seeing this sunlight well into morning, I am suddenly aware that it is very nearly time for them to return outdoors. The forecast promises cold and maybe snow again on Tuesday, but after that last blast of cold, temps in the 70s for the rest of... Sign in to see full entry.

The Day Between

Considering with weary heart and jaded eye all the stacks and racks and knicks and knacks, that loom left over and left undone from yesterdays and yesterweeks, last month, last season, even all a lifetime's matters still requiring answers and corrections and response... Before this week is out I know decisions must be made, uncertainties confronted and if possible allayed, anxieties faced down or potentially delayed; expectations settled--mine and those of others poised for disappointment and...
