Ready and waiting...

The wind has calmed, and Sokka Cat has returned home, seems to be feeling better. Now that the c-19 shots are happening and anxieties are lifting, I'm suddenly realized I am excited about being able to have company again! I figure getting this place cleaned up and in order should take about as long as cautions and restrictions are still necessary. I was 'window shopping' on line this evening, and have picked out a nice little indoor/outdoor rug for my entryway which is the first area undergoing... Sign in to see full entry.

Cold's a-comin in!

The wind is rattling the windows today, and carrying off loose things around the yards and streets. I have not looked out, yet, but there may be chasing down of garbage bins when I do! Charlie's cat, Sokka, is still at the vet, though we hope to bring him home this afternoon. If that doesn't happen, the snow we're expecting could keep him there days more! First thing in the morning...

I heard a 'snap!' as I was getting ready for bed last night. A mouse had tripped one of my mousetraps, stunning itself, but by no means dying. So I picked it up by the tail, could see no damage to it, and just could not bring myself to kill it. Why do they have to have such cute little fuzzy faces and bright eyes...? So I put it in an emptied oatmeal can with an air-holed lid and decided to see if internal injuries killed it over night. They did not. I did notice that the can had shifted on the... International Women's Day!

I have a movie recommendation today: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It's available on Netflix right now, I don't know for how long. It is a story of China and Chinese culture, and moves between the 1800s and recent times. It is about sisterhood: Not sisters by blood, but by arrangement, like arranged marriages. It is also about foot-binding, and other ways in which women in long Chinese tradition are encouraged to some behaviors and relationships, discouraged from others. I hear the book is... Night and Day

I really like getting things done in the morning, especially going out things, like shopping. Today I got to hit Trader Joe's before 8:30, and grab all sorts of things I have missed for a while. If I get to noon without getting errands run, I feel I have missed the whole day. Usually I like to go out with Charlie, and the thing is, he likes to sleep in the morning. Having luck in the hours of darkness

After getting up at 4am yesterday morning, I was prepared all day to either take a nap or go to bed early. As it turned out, going to bed at 9:30 was the nap. I woke up around 1am and was pretty much wide awake. With a sigh, I got out of my warm nest of a bed, and went to the kitchen to heat some soup. The excellent very good day!

Not only did I get laundry done today, not only is it near 60F outside, I have now also received my covid vaccine, and it is the Johnson and Johnson one, so done in a single shot. In case you wonder, it is not a very painful shot--a bit more feely than a flu shot, but not as bad as, say, a penicillin shot. edit: I forgot to mention another great discovery... Kaiser has just this past month opened a new facility that's just about a mile from home, with full services--So no more driving 10 mile... Sign in to see full entry.

Reaching out from the comfort zone

As these strange and troubling times drag on, it seems many of us are falling into a kind of personal doldrums, and it becomes easier to sit back and simply not engage. It's certainly where I am at these days. Not exactly depressed, but just not wanting to reach out from the comfort-routine I've been in for a year now. Every now and then, though, words actually want to break out of my head, and I find that some things are worth writing about. I often read you, my Blogit friends here, and some... Adventures in Publishing

After a silence of many days, I finally connected with IngramSpark to see how my little book is coming along. They tell me it is already released. This, without my having yet seen the hard copy proof. Seems they don't do hard copy proofs, but I can order a copy through them, and if any corrections are required, it will cost me another $25 to upload them. Well, I have ordered a single copy through them, and with all the little extras it will cost me over $8 to get it in my hands in a week or two.... Sign in to see full entry.
