A beautiful day in the neighborhood

This weekend promises spring warmth both days, and freezing temps each night. So the plants remain indoors, but I spent some time outdoors this morning digging down into the pots that wait for eager roots. The compacted soils with old decaying roots got squeezed and scattered into loose soil, some more loamy, some more sandy. The pot that holds the volunteer seeds from last year's morning glories I mostly left alone, knowing they will manage nicely without interference. I might try for sweet... Sign in to see full entry.

The weekend looms...

I finally got it done...! I got all the papers together and took them to the tax man. As happens every year, we will likely file the extension. I mention it as a pat on my own back, as there is an anxiety that fires up in January every year, and it gets more intense until I actually get the numbers delivered. Adding to the delay factor, it has become easier and easier to simply not go out this past year. Speaking of home-bodies, the dovelings are flying, though not far from home, and I saw one... Climb every mountain...

I traded in my flip phone for a smart phone last week. For the first few days, I couldn't figure out how to answer a phone call. This weekend, I missed a call because the ringer somehow went to silent mode. It's not like I get many calls that are not spam, so this was really upsetting. Today I tried to sign up with Spotify at the behest of my daughter who plans to post a podcast there, and discovered someone else has been using my email to sign on... and their music taste is definitely not mine.... Doves, Fish-tank, and weather

Bleak and chilly days

It's a dreary day outside, temps around 40F, which is 4.44444... Celsius. It's raining just a little. My heart is sad, too, as our Kabu sits with John who contemplates the Rainbow Bridge before him. Despite my spiritual perspective on the passage from life, the heart is of the body and the mind, feels sorrow, and laments such loss. The event that was planned for the Compass Rose Stage tomorrow has been cancelled due to the cold and incontinent weather. It is not a day anyone would wish to attend... Sign in to see full entry.

New babies: acalypha

I haven't seen it anywhere for years: a-ka-LIFE-ah, red chenille plant! I found two of them to bring home a couple of days ago. It is of tropical origins, and loves high humidity and ever-damp but draining soils. That's what I learned today, looking up the how-to-care-for details. I imagine it isn't common in Colorado which is noted for its not-tropical climate. In fact, humidity can get to single digits here in summer. So, probably here, a great bathroom plant! Other than that... It's Monday.... Sign in to see full entry.

Garden time

All the flowers and vegies plants are enjoying the morning sun from the vantage of the dining room table and the floor. https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C I'm glad to share them with you! Sign in to see full entry.

Organizing plants and TIME

Wind is up today, plants are safe inside, basking in sunlight through the back glass door. The re-organizing to make space for them led to other efforts, finding better places for all the stuff previously in that space. So now, the family photos that were on a particular high shelf are now in a wooden chest I found a couple of weeks ago at a thrift store; the cookbooks that came out of the pantry shelves a while ago, and sat on the dining room table are now up on that shelf, along with a stack... Spring Winter Spring Winter... SPRING!

Of course, just as soon as I believe in spring, and buy vegie starts and live flowers, we get the forecast for below-freezing nights for the next week or more. So the indoor spaces are prepared, or nearly, to receive them this evening after we have all enjoyed short-sleeve weather here for days and days! The mini-doves are feathered out now, and look like their parents though a third the size. In another couple of weeks, I expect they will be flying, and the adults will be fidgetting with the... I've gone and done it...!

Dragged myself nearer to the Modern Age: I am finally giving up the flip phone for a smart phone. My son's phone is on its last leg, and there was a pretty good (cheap) deal through Consumer Cellular for two lines with unlimited talk and that other thing--texting, which I don't do much of if any at all. My finger tips don't fit the tiny keyboard very well. And it has enough memory for wifi and photos and such on the plan we chose, though if we go over, it will just switch us up to the next plan...
