A dry heat crackles, parches the pale and spiny desert. In the red-rock lands of colossal clouds that stride the sky like gods-- lit with sunlight, shadows, sometimes hearts aflash with lightning glows and casting the colored laughter of rainbows in curtains that never touch the ground. Warm, essence of sage and mesquite on the air... Dry heat shatters: The storm, relentless, a vivid line between the wet and dry, audibly advancing; the potent male rains come on hissing over sand and rock,... Sign in to see full entry.

new things and memories
The new shelf is up, the new guest mattress is laid out, the doves have flown away, temps this week rise to near 90 in the Springs. That means the plants will be thirsty all week, really thirsty! Embers has a vet visit tomorrow, and I will give her a veterinary potion tomorrow an hour or so before, to mellow her out before the dreaded journey. I hope it works. She hates that car ride so much! Charlie needed to look for buttons at a thrift/craft store, so I went into the garden shop next door. So... Sign in to see full entry.

Deliveries Day!
All three items I've been expecting from Overstock arrived at once this morning. Well, noonish. Charlie lugged them in--the bookshelf, a few shelves at a time. Then we headed out to the thrift store sale day, found a few things, and had lunch, and now we are back. He's taking a break before assembling the bookshelf. I am containing my excitement... The dovelings are currently sitting guard on either side of the sliding door. still not quite daring the open sky. Maybe they see the mighty storm... Sign in to see full entry.

Day is done
It has been one of those days of not doing much, not feeling the urge to cleaning or organizing, a day spent mostly between... Between projects, intentions, necessities... The landlord showed up as he said he would--"sometime next week." This was that week, but I got no heads-up before he showed up. He's a great landlord, always prompt with things that need attention. Today the main thing was replacing an electrical outlet that would no longer hold on to plugs. That, and replacing the cheap and... Sign in to see full entry.

Doing the Keto Diet
Today the warmth returns. After several chilly and rainy days, it will be mostly sunny with some chance of scattered storms in the afternoon. I like those storms that keep the garden nice and wet! One of the dovelings was just now flying around the deck, and both have been stretching and flapping their wings, ready to go. I have to wonder if that wing-flapping propelled the young dove into the air, into actual flight, as much a surprise to the bird as to anyone! Its eggs and bacon for breakfast,... Something strange is happening here...
Is it the power of spring? Of warm airs blowing over the lands? Is it the next level of relaxation with the fading of the pandemic (though it has a considerable way yet to go)? Is it a shift in myself? It started with cleaning up the Dove Deck, and with shifting many so-potentially-useful cardboard boxes to the garage. Then I had some company over--the first in more than a year--and stimulated by some generous and gratifying comments, as I rise from the doldrums of the past months I am looking... Saturday satisfactions
It's in the 70s F today, 20s C. There are breezes and clouds, and thunderstorms loom in the forecast. The dovelings are flapping their wings in the nest, making flight muscles, getting ready... I expect them to fly next week some time. I've had a couple of very enjoyable, sociable days. First, there was Minerva and our marathon getting-to-know-you tea party/bbq, and the next day one of my favorite people messaged me wondering if at such short notice I could help her pick up some furniture. She... Sign in to see full entry.

It was a good Thursday!
Spring is here with warm, sunny days and the occasional storm-banger. They are telling us that at least in this part of Colorado, the drought of the past several seasons is over. That's very encouraging for the garden! After Charlie and I cleared and cleaned up the front deck, and I got it dressed up with some new I invited someone over yesterday for some getting-acquainted tea and chat. It segued into Charlie's bbq next door in the evening, and she finally headed home coming up on 10 pm. I've... Sign in to see full entry.

Eclipse and encounters
Charlie woke me up around 4 this morning, as I'd asked him to do if the ongoing lunar eclipse was visible. We get a lot of cloudy skies when there are heavenly events, like great meteor showers, and lunar eclipses. In fact, there was only partial visibility because of mists over the hills and mountains of our western horizon. But there were windows in the mists, so there were moments of clear viewing as totality approached. But... the windows closed, the curtains came down, and at the time of... Sign in to see full entry.
