Turkish Soap Opera

Lately, on Netflix, I've been watching MAGNIFICENT CENTURY which is essentially a soap opera based on the historic figures in the time of Suleiman the Magnificent--a contemporary of Henry VIII and Martin Luther. It is very colorful, and as it's made in Turkey, has a very different flavor from shows from the US or UK. It's subtitled, so the voices are the actual voices of the actors, with their inflections and tones. I enjoy this, trying to actually learn a few words of Turkish, and to determine... ...before it's too late!

I woke up from dreaming that my ivy plant was sending me an urgent message to water it. In that state just between sleep and wakefulness, it was right there, an image of large, crisping ivy leaves that would not go away. Every other thought in my mind was eclipsed by the thirsty ivy plant. After a less than restful night, I really would have like to sink back into sleep, but the ivy was there, showing me roots dying cell by cell from dehydration. I got up, checked the plant, and though the... Sign in to see full entry.

Not Quite Alone or Lonely

I am glad of the cat who keeps company with me from time to time sitting beside me on the arm of the chair or on my arm despite my need to have it free and sometimes I pause from work or pull her close against me to rest slightly purring against my chest and not body-blocking the view of keyboard and screen... At night and time to sleep, she walks across me with hard pointed feet that concentrate all her little weight against nerve points and tender spots that wince... I wake to find that I'm... Interesting Sunday

Some local Baha'i folks came by today and we had quite an interesting conversation. They are starting a non-demoninational program for middle-school age kids to get them interested and more skilled in things like critical thinking and community participation, and moral compass. They mean to do this through study and discussion, service, sports and activities, and the arts. We talked some about how the Compass Rose TT might be a resource for this program. I'm also thinking Charlie would be a very... Sign in to see full entry.

Treasure hunt!

It was a happy surprise to find a calling card from Geri recently. She hasn't visited in her own 'write' for such a long time! I miss her, and a lot of others: Kooka, one whom I often found on wavelengths familiar and amusing, for one; and Talion who always wrote so eloquently, and often of his wife with such love and respect--what a gentleman! Whacky, Sam444, Danceswithwords, and oh, so many others... If you type just about any word into 'search' you will find them, and they still entertain if... Sign in to see full entry.

Autumnal morning

The sky was rosy this morning as the sun came up over a low-hanging misty cloud. Then, for just a moment, it peered below the cloud cover to light the tree tops across the road. A week ago, all the leaves were green, but there are now branches full of yellow and red among the green, and soon my big old maple off the deck will be rich with gold, and then the leaves will drop and branches emerge from cover, and there will be Pike's Peak and the Front Range again, even Garden of the Gods on the... Birthday Party!

The Party was arranged for a pizza place that is very old-West, sort of Victorian grand decor, that has good pizza and a decent salad bar, a kind of unique and fun place. Five friends turned up, along with Charlie and me, and we had a great time! Brian and Maelle who got married in July are just back from their honeymoon in Sydney, Australia, and you can bet I wanted to hear all about it! They went to several places I have been to, including the wonderful Botanic Gardens, and a jaunt out to the... Sign in to see full entry.

So, I'm older today than I've ever been...

Of course that's true every day, but today the numbers flip over. I've made it to 64. A while back, the notion entered my head that this lifetime would end at 63. And yet, here I am. I'm pleased: the notion or premonition or whatever was wrong, all bets are off: Now I can live forever! Sign in to see full entry.

as promised...

The link to photos of yesterday's excursion into the Rockies autumn is to be found in my Adventuring travelblogue, along with a commentary of the day. TAPS, this one's for you: I was thinking of you the whole time! After the mountain drive, we went to a Vintage Market fair down at the Estes Park fairgrounds. It's a new event, only its second time out, and though it occupied two buildings, there was only one booth that actually had a significant amount of vintage clothing. It was more about... Long, long day...

It started early with the drive to the airport to see grandson Vale off to Maryland, then north and west up to Estes Park where my sister Julie drove Charlie and me up into Rocky Mt National Park to enjoy the lovely day and the golden and peachy aspen trees among the dark evergreens. We went up as far as the tundra, then came down again. Tomorrow I will post the best photos. My favorites are the views from the tundra overlook, and a spectacular 6-point elk bull out looking for love. It's said... Sign in to see full entry.
