Thick fog

I was due to go up to see my parents in Derbyshire this evening but we have a lot of fog here in East Anglia which has been lingering for most of the day. My mother 'phoned a few hours ago to say that the fog came down with the nightfall up there and it is literally blanket fog so that she can't... Sign in to see full entry.

Busy busy

A busy day today on client work which I think is exactly what I needed. My mind is only now beginning to relax and looking forward to some time here on Blogit. It's been a very cold day in the East of England and I'm not looking forward to travelling onto London tomorrow morning but at least this... Sign in to see full entry.

In denial

Firstly and most importantly, many thanks to all of you for your comments. The news of the accident yesterday really knocked us off balance, especially after so much other bad news lately. Of course, I'd be totally untruthful if I didn't admit that part of it was thinking about Ivan driving up to... Sign in to see full entry.

Pump action

We have a sewage pump at the house which effectively lifts waste up a level to the main village sewer as our property is built in a hollow and below others in the village. It is normally fine and just needs an annual service. Before I went out yesterday the alarm on the control panel was sounding... Sign in to see full entry.

Another defeat

Just got back from watching Christian's football team play. They were at Alconbury which is a bout 45 minutes from here, just past Huntingdon. The last time they played there was in pouring, freezing rain and gale force winds. It started to rain as we headed off today and Christian and I both... Sign in to see full entry.

Surprise from Ivan

Christian told me coyly at the start of the week that he knew about a surprise that was coming for Susan and myself but wasn't going to tell me what it was. At sixteen years old I resisted the temptation to tell him that this was the definition of surprise... He has been smiling knowingly throughout... Sign in to see full entry.

We had a new carpet fitted

When I left my employer of twenty one years at the end of 2009 they gave me some John Lewis vouchers. John Lewis is a major department store chain in the UK and basically represents the retail standard for high quality. Susan and I used some of them up on items for the new house but decided to use... Our lives are so fragile

Susan was telling me this morning about one of her ballet pupils. She is fifteen and lives with her Mum and sister on a really rough estate where every evil imaginable surrounds them. Mum is trying so hard to improve herself and the lives of her children through night school but it's a long slog.... Sign in to see full entry.

People watching

I'm sure you have all observed other people from time to time, wondering what their name is, what they do for a living and so on? When Susan and I lived in London we would compare notes after our various Tube journeys and see who could invent either the most plausible stories or the most... Sign in to see full entry.

Three wheels on my wagon

Not sure if any of you remember this song by the New Christy Minstrels in the '60s? I heard it over the weekend and was immediately transported back in time. I blogged about it in my Music and Lyrics blog today. It's funny how just reading or hearing a word or collection of words can have such... Sign in to see full entry.
