Where is the common sense, along with the professional courtesy?

Vet visit today--Cat was fine until the vet declined to refill the meds she's been on for years without an office visit, tests, etc. Cat hates the car trip with a passionate, drooling, vomiting hate, so if she is doing fine, we don't do that. And covid... vet offices being one of the hotter spots for exposure, I as high-risk preferred not to go there without some definite need. The visit, etc cost not quite $300. At least I won't have to shell out the $35 for the usual meds. Thing is, I called... Sign in to see full entry.

The week begins

Sitting here, putting on my coziest socks, waiting for hot soup to cool down just a little, which it will do pretty quickly in this chilly room. I've been working on getting my little book ready for the publisher. My illustrator uses IngramSpark-- https://myaccount.ingramspark.com/, if you want to explore it, too. Signing up for the account requires a few hoops jumped through, including how the author wants to be paid. So, that's going to require some running around. After the soup, that's the... Sunday, Wind-day!

It's windy again today... has been since yesterday, forcing a fair amount of chilly airs into the house... Since the sun moved over the house, taking it's warm spot with it, Embers has been clinging to the other Warm Spot of Choice: Me. She has perched on my left elbow, not blocking the keyboard, and head turned away from the temptation to lick my face. Only my left arm is discommoded, so this will work for a while. My other elbow, nearer the window, is cold, especially when the wind outside... Sign in to see full entry.

Another Thursday, and a Friday

More yoyo weather here in Colorado: 64F yesterday, snow last night, bright and sunny today with clouds lurking over the horizon. Some were lurking Wednesday evening as the sun went down in the west. https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C The next step has been completed for THE SERPENT AND THE SAINT, with pdf copies of the formatter's work now in hand. It's looking good, and we are still on schedule for the Mar 3 release date. Had another visit from the chunky ginger cat who would really like to come indoors... Sign in to see full entry.

Winter's not over yet!

February 2nd... Groundhog Day for those of us who are fans of Pauxatawney Phil, who if he comes out of his winter den on a sunny day, will dive back in, they say, alarmed by his own shadow, and will hibernate another six weeks of winter. In Celtic lore, it is the Cailleach, the diety of storm and winter, who comes out of her hut to gather firewood for the rest of the winter. If the day is sunny and pleasant, she takes her time and gathers a lot of wood; if it is drear, she gathers some, but soon... Sign in to see full entry.

Midweek morning with snow

There's snow on the ground, about 3 inches, sparkling in the morning sun. The doves come and go from their hideout in the corner of the deck ceiling, coo-coo-cooing from there or on the roof or in the trees from time to time. Little birds dash around the feeder. The cold water in the upstairs bathroom--farthest from the hot water heater--is unflowing this morning. My meds-in-the-afternoon strategy seems to be paying off: I am getting to sleep easier and sleeping with less interruption through... Sign in to see full entry.

Impatient for spring...?

So, it seems, are the collared doves who have been turning up every morning lately in that corner of the deck ceiling they have made their own. They are huddled there, roughly coo-cooing their ode to warmer weather just about 8 AM several times a week. My bed is beside the glass door to the deck: They are an effective alarm clock! Pike's Peak is brilliant this morning, etched with white snow against grey rock above the tree-line. There's a neighbor out back who has just fired up his table saw. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Focus on Monday

Monday... is it going to be another of those weekend-extensions focused on being slightly out of focus all day, or the Monday that gets the week started with focusing on accomplishment? So far, this chilly, unsparkling morning I slept in until just past 8, and there was not much one could honestly call focus of any kind. I just did some things. Like clean the downstairs bathtub with a thoroughness that included putting the safety mats and the clear plastic curtain liner in the actual wash, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday dawns unspectacularly.

Sunlight cuts across the center of the house this morning, and this may be all the bright sunbeam we get today. Embers is not even bothering to bask in it. The forecast is for a cloudy, chilly day without anything as exciting as snowfall to redeem it. Ah well, I have my oatmeal for breakfast and other tasty foods for later. I drove to the car repair place, but the replacement mirror was not quite the same as the old one. A search ensued, even going to ebay to find the right one, and lo, a set of... Well, that was unexpected...

Charlie and I decided to run out to the grocery store and get a few things, and lunch. Sitting in the truck waiting for the light to go green, suddenly there was a crashing impact, and my driver-side mirror was no more. It was another truck that passed just that much too close as it moved into the left-turning lane, and mashed his own passenger side mirror against my mirror. We had to wait for the light to change, then drove into a parking lot to decide what we'd do next. I suggested that I... Sign in to see full entry.
