International Women's Day!
I have a movie recommendation today: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It's available on Netflix right now, I don't know for how long. It is a story of China and Chinese culture, and moves between the 1800s and recent times. It is about sisterhood: Not sisters by blood, but by arrangement, like arranged marriages. It is also about foot-binding, and other ways in which women in long Chinese tradition are encouraged to some behaviors and relationships, discouraged from others. I hear the book is...
