You stand to one side, I to the other; We see different pictures of our mother. For several years I've wanted to tell my mother's story, write her biography. I know my sisters and brothers wouldn't like that. It's a touchy issue to five siblings who've overcome their childhood and achieved a measure... Sign in to see full entry.

It's a girl thing...
Moving furniture, that is. The couch and big chairs slide fairly easily on these hardwood floors, so rearranging the living room's not an all-day, call in the boys for the heavy lifting kind of ordeal. With my trusty duster I rounded up the dust bunnies, took the Pledge and a dustrag to every solid... Sign in to see full entry.

Some people...
are numb from the butt both ways. That's one of my mother's sayings. She didn't suffer fools gladly, or even politely most of the time. Unless of course, they really were people with mental challenges, and then she was patient and kind. Maybe that explains why she was always on our case as we kids... Sign in to see full entry.

Fragment of a story that I never got back to... Where was I going?
Group. It was his turn to talk about the problem that brought him into the group. He did a good presentation. Most guys - check that - most people aren’t that articulate. “It’s like a moonlit yowling at the very bottom of my gut that goes metaphysically to the frozen part of the earth’s core, the... Doc said, I don't want you to come here again.
You've insulted my assistants, refuse my advice, and we will not treat you. When Jean told me what her foot doctor said to her, she was feeling hurt, rejected, and totally misunderstood. I had just listened to a 15-minute diatribe of complaints about how the doctor barely looked at her problem, did... Sign in to see full entry.

Good News, and then a bit of Emily
My daughter-in-law, Lis, has made the dean's list. She's in the last half of the last year of college, and will get her BA degree in December. For several years she'd worked various shifts and jobs at Wally World, stocking shelves, running a cash register, managing the meat department -- avoiding... Sign in to see full entry.

Murder she typed...
I've been keyboarding a bunch of news articles about the Leclaire historic neighborhood for the past few months -- a unique area of curved streets and well-built houses set up by N. O.Nelson so his employees would have solid housing, convenient to the factory he built in 1890. Nelson also believed... Sign in to see full entry.

Murder at 922 Holyoke Road
April 4, 1911. Around seven o'clock in the evening George Yates walks three-quarters of a mile from his home in Leclaire to the police station, his clothes covered in blood. He gets the attention of Sgt. Moriarty and tells him "I just killed my wife. Here are the keys to the house, so you can see to... Sign in to see full entry.

If at first you don't succeed...
This is a substitute post. The first one I wrote this morning was too long, too personal, TMI. So this one replaces it. Exactly 50 years ago today I walked out of the courthouse a free woman. The judge listened to my husband, arrogant enough to act as his own attorney and certain he'd prevail, that... Sign in to see full entry.

It's officially summer now
I sat out on the deck last night, watching the waterfall and the pond. Guy and the girlfriend had come over to load the left over limestone into his truck. Kim has gotten him to agree to build a flagstone path through her back garden. After they finished moving it, they sat for a few minutes,... Sign in to see full entry.
