I was in the last stages of labor, feet up, nether regions well lit and center stage. The initial pain shot had worn off, and the anesthesiologist was half an hour out, but on his way. A nurse was administering slight little bursts of gas as each contraction came over me like a wave crests over the... Sign in to see full entry.

Life is good
And in my life I have been lucky. Sometimes I didn't see the luck in what happened, the turning moments that came upon me like a two-by-four to the head. The "why me?" things that bent me low, and left me feeling broken and that the whole show we call life is pointless. I am not convinced, tho' I'm... Sign in to see full entry.

Doctor, Doctor, give me the news, I've got a bad case of lovin' you!
My brain is wrapped in fog this a.m. Can't remember whether or not I mentioned that Dr. Cardiac wants to put me on coumadin or warfarin. I'm resisting. Those little A-Fib episodes weren't that severe, although they've been coming more often lately. He's afraid the atrial valves will cast a blood... Sign in to see full entry.

The Philosophy Gamer, Finals Done, and a Perv
I went to the online list of faculty, checked out the philosophy department. No such name as Thomas Patrick whoever. No courses coming up to be taught by "staff." That's how we listed them a few years back, when a beginning course was to be taught by adjunct or temp faculty. Don't know what his game... Sign in to see full entry.

Bob who?
I went an hour early to the retiree's reception so I could stop at Starbuck's and visit the bookstore before the big party. While waiting for my latte to appear I got to chatting with a couple of speech comm grad students who asked me to settle a light-hearted debate they were having about who... ... is paved with good intentions.
Yesterday was an iffy day -- occasional sleety rain, sometimes a powder-sugar sprinkling of tiny little bee-bee snowflakes, but nothing accumulating, dry roads. For a while there in late afternoon it looked like there might be enough milky sunlight to cast shadows. So, based on that and other... Sign in to see full entry.

Something's not right...
Each day for the past couple years, I've scheduled my activities around my favorite soap opera. I've actually watched it as the children grew up -- usually very quickly, aging a few years while the folks are on vacation somewhere for a month or so. There are so many times I snort with derision about... Sign in to see full entry.
Ya got any good chicken jokes?
Just heard a brief story on NPR about a little kid whose pet chicken got lost, and mommie sent out a tweet asking if anyone had seen it -- apparently the twitter message got passed onward and they finally found it -- "across the road." Snickering to myself about twittering and chickens, I remembered... Sign in to see full entry.

Old Mother Goose
In my mind's eye I can still see the cover of the book of nursery rhymes we had as children. No doubt it was a Christmas gift when I was 4 or 5 years old. There was old Mother Goose in a black print dress riding a broom -- holding on with one hand and carrying a great gray goose under the other. She... Sign in to see full entry.

Fox's Dinner
In the spring Tina Turkey fell madly in love with Tom, who could strut with the best of them. He had the most magnificent perfect tail feathers, which seemed to emit rays of light as he and the lesser fellows on the Turkey Trot did their level best to attract the sweetest hens. Tina seemed to catch... Sign in to see full entry.
