I did revise a chapter of my 922 Holyoake Road ghost story. I sharpened the conflict between George and Isabel, deleted some redundancies. Maybe I've found a new way to edit a novel -- one chapter at a time, instead of starting at "Once Upon a Time" and fighting the clock until "The End." It seems... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Halloween: 922 Holyoake Road, a "true" ghost story
George sat at the table for a while, trying to decide the next step. He was thinking they seldom had callers. He could go to work the next day like nothing had happened. The best way to dispose of the corpse would be to wrap it in the quilt and find a secluded spot on the farm to bury the body. He’d... Sign in to see full entry.

Post Script -- It's a(nother) party!
About the highway closure that was to be re-scheduled so the St. Louis fans could throw a parade for the World Series winners: The organizers set the parade time for Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. -- the road work got done, the marching bands were contacted, floats were restored or built, and those... The Missouri dept. of transportation planned to shut down a main drag
through downtown Friday night at six p.m. Something about necessary pre-winter maintenance. The problem: lots of out-of-town drivers were in St. Louis for World Series Game 7. MODOT put off the start time until one a.m. to allow fans time to leave the area afterward. Commentators on Channel 5... Sign in to see full entry.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate."
Apparently this problem extends beyond the prison where Cool Hand Luke resisted the warden's cruelty. Some reported the "antique" phones in the dugout were part of the problem. When Tony LaRussa called his assistant, the guy behind the scenes apparently didn't get the whole message. It was time for... Sign in to see full entry.

One advantage to "old-timer's" memory shrinkage --
no re-runs on TV. Every "encore" program becomes all shiny and new. Bookstore to open in a few weeks I've been deprived and mistreated for the last few weeks, suffering withdrawal from my habit now that Borders closed. A week ago they took down the signage above the front door. And I've missed "my"... Sign in to see full entry.

Pet Peeve of the month
The MJ / Conrad Murray trial is going on far, far too long. They proved the charges against him in one or two days -- negligence at a criminal level. But the jury continues to sit and listen; the cameras continue to roll. If I were in that jury box I'd be wanting to fine the prosecution and defense... Sign in to see full entry.

Superfoods -- cancer killers
Sometimes it pays to have a notebook handy when you watch health and nutrition experts. Sometimes weight loss segments on daytime TV (not infomercials, but regular network programming) feel like so much hocus pocus. For those who've tried the low carb diet, the Atkins diet, Weight Watchers, over the... Sign in to see full entry.

Alphabet Love - Chuck
Chuck's the All American guy, once a buff and handsome Air Force pilot, a chick magnet who had just enough swagger to appeal to adventurous girls who wanted to join the mile-high club. Chuck went halfies with a buddy on a 4-passenger Cessna. If he couldn't get a girl with dinner and a few drinks,... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm mulling over a plot for another Alphabet Love story...
This one's about a trumpet player who fell in love with Alaska after reading Jack London and dreamed of going there for years and years. When the band broke up he hadda find real work, so he took a class and got his real estate broker's license, and then (details to be worked out) ended up in... Sign in to see full entry.
