The Kite Runner and other lengthy waffles!

The Kite Runner A book, I finished just hours ago after starting it Friday evening after our Shabbat meal, it has had a profound effect on me. I cried for Amir, for Hassan and most of all for the boy that is Hassan’s son. Amir’s nephew who he brings to America and adopts with his wife. Khaled Hosseini is a superb writer who cuts into his character’s deeper thoughts and dissects the flaws that are common to us all. He exposes what we all try to hide in ourselves, as we endeavour to present... Sign in to see full entry.

Can any one tell me a bit about their film likes and dislikes?

I am interested to know what other people think makes a good film and why? I like drama and biographies in film plus a good story line..we watched a part of Good Will Hunting and it has made me keen to see the rest of the film. Another good film is Chinatown. However I don't like Woody Allen that much too neurotic and I dislike anything that Syllvester Stallone is in and Horror films. Sign in to see full entry.

Can Hilary Clinton Pull a Rabbit out of a HAT?

I look at the woman and believe me I would vote for her. It is not that I don't trust Barack Obama, it is more about who I believe will be the better president. There is an unknown quality about Obama that I don't trust. He is not Martin Luther King. If he was I would have no trouble voting for him. However there is something about the guy that is sneaky and not straight. I don't know much about McCain so I can't say too much. Lucky I am not voting in this one. I am more concerned about the... LOVE

Living Optimistically Vivaciously Enthusiastically and then while we keep our feet on the ground we are open to possibilities of advancing ourselves on a number of levels. Spiritually, intellectually and physically as we maintain good health through eating fresh and nuitritious foods, a regular routine (that is a hard one as I am an absent minded person who tends to go off on tangents all the time) and exercise. When we love life and people and ourselves, then G-d helps up do the rest! If we... Sign in to see full entry.

Psychics, Mystics and Spirituality!

Today I was meant to go with a friend to a psychic or medium who reads coffee cups. I pulled out for several reasons. While it it is interesting to contemplate.... 1. I felt that it was not going to be of real benefit to me. As an Orthodox Jew I believe that we should pray directly to Hashem or G-d to help us in our lives and sometimes the help is there through prayer and living a good life that is according to Torah. 2. I believe it would be foolish to spend money on a person, who while quite... Sign in to see full entry.

On Writing

Where is the truth in a story? Answer: Truth has to be subjective as every story is another person's perspective on an event or events. Six or sixty people will give that many versions of an event and reveal a different response to it emotionally and even physically and psychologically. Sign in to see full entry.

Nature's Autumn collection

They stand clothed in summer finery lushly attired. When the season changes So do they; shedding green skirts Swinging full and easy with the breezes to multi coloured gowns That sparkle and catch the lights of night and day Rain or sunshine to dance To winter's edge When they shed their finest garments To stand shivering their scrawny limbs Await the advent of new greenery to cloak their nakedness with fashion's whimsical fancy. ©Ilana Leeds May 2008 Sign in to see full entry.

CONVERSATIONS WITH MY MOTHER!

'Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.' Mark Twain Conversations with my mother and ‘NO I DON’T WANT TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER.’ Today I got up early as I could not sleep. I decided at 6am that I should talk with my mother. It was a mistake. From being depressed about my jobless state and lack of financial solvency I became even more depressed and started to think of myself as a... Sign in to see full entry.

Insurance Fraud!

Well I have just spent part of the last hour in the legal aid office. I had been rung by the insurance agent for the woman who alleged that my trailer hit her car in February and they say they matched the paint on the car with the trailer and it was a 'perfect match' according to her repairer. I find that so hard to believe as neither the police officer or I could find any fresh scrapes or dents on the car trailer or my car that matches what she said happened and the trailer was viewed by the... Job Hunting!

At the present time, I am job hunting for work for three days a week. I am studying plus I have to take my son to speech therapy for a couple of hours Friday afternoon. I am not so sure how beneficial the speech therapy is going to be as the once we went the other four kids there seemed to be somehow intellectually slow. My son is a bit hyper but he is in no way intellectually disabled. It is more about his attention span and his ability to listen to instructions, plus the fact that he is very...
