It has been a chilly day all day. First thing this morning was turning the heat on! Yesterday we drove to my friends' house to deliver the doll house, and visited for a while. Nice to be out, nice to visit friends... but it is taking a chance in these days of covid surge. We stayed an hour, and we stayed masked. With the doll house out of my house, there is room on the dining room table again--the flat surface that tends to get covered with stuff first. So getting the space back is great, and... Sunday morning anticipations
Windy and chilly and sunny today! Some friends are coming over around noon--a single mother and her two teen girls. I haven't seen them in months, and though we will all be masked up and there will not be hugging, I'm really looking forward to the visit! One of the big old doll houses I acquired a few years ago is a grand Victorian thing, and if she wants it, I'm giving it to the younger girl. Restoring and completing it could be a great long-term project! I also have some foody magazines for... Sign in to see full entry.

Home again, jiggety-jig!
Charlie and I got together for breakfast this morning, and an hour after planned, headed up to the grocery store. There are new restrictions in public places now the covid numbers are leaping upwards, but they are not egregious. Even so, I expected more shoppers in the lunch hour. It was pleasing to see not many at all. I still don't get why people wear masks wrong, not covering mouth and nose. I got my poke (po-kay) salad bowl from the sushi bar. I have several times asked for the salad rather... Sign in to see full entry.

Easy days, if one stays off FBook.
Another lovely warm day... 70s today again! I'll get up and open the deck door now, if Embers ever gets off my chest. The leaves on the maple have gone from cornflakes to pale, washed out beige, since the hard freezes we've had. Sunday it will drop to 50s, and Monday the Weather Underground predicts snow. I wonder how they predict weather from underground... After that, it's 40s the rest of the way through November, they say. We'll see. There is a new version of REBECCA available on Netflix. It... Sign in to see full entry.

a fall farewell
Possibly the last of the lovely autumn days is upon us... Temps up to the low 70s--perfection! I refilled the bird feeder today, and set the herbs out to catch some sunlight and fresh air. Doors and windows are open, and in a while, the fish tank will be topped up so the filter will stop splashing. Goldfish require salt in their water, and the filter-splash puts a salty coating on any nearby plants. It would help if I had a more complete cover for the tank. Also the water would evaporate more... Sign in to see full entry.

The benefits of messes
I feel like I got an extra day this week. This is mainly because I went through most of yesterday, Thursday, thinking it was Friday. So I woke this morning thinking, Saturday... again. And then remembered, no it really is Friday! It's another day of sunshine and relative warmth: 60 F is predicted for this afternoon. After near-0 earlier in the week, this is balmy! I got a bit of video from my daughter of her younger daughter who just turned 1 this month. Visiting with video-calls fairly... Sign in to see full entry.

wait... it's Thursday?
Thought it was Friday until we were on our way back from our shoppings. I got my flu shot while I waited for my prescriptions, then went to the grocery store to restock my freezer which finally became close to empty. In other words, only half full of things I don't really want to use, but it's still food and who knows, someday I might be in the mood for it. Or that desperate. Then a special stop was made at the local Trader Joe's for things that can't be obtained at the regular grocery store.... Sign in to see full entry.
Every month...
I have one prescription that they keep telling me at the pharmacy is in short supply, so they'll only fill it a month at a time. This means I have to make the drive, 10 miles round trip, to the Kaiser pharmacy every month. On the other hand, it serves as a kind of calendar, which is very handy in these days that flow mostly unchanging one after another. That works, at least, if I actually do remember to take the damn pill every day. It's one I don't forget often. It's allopurinol, the one that... Sign in to see full entry.

Blood sugar ups and downs
Oops... I had breakfast around 9 this morning, and coffee a little later. Then, somehow, it was nearly 5pm and I was jittering. Well, that's what happens when blood sugar drops way below 100, the way we measure it in the US. Happily, there was cake... When I check again in an hour or so, it is likely to be rather higher than 84. Below 60 or 70 is where it gets dangerous, but luckily, the jitters start before that and are a signal a diabetic is wise to take note of, and act upon promptly. It's... Sign in to see full entry.

COLD!
At 9 AM, it is 8F out there in the whiteness, with a high expected of 13F today. I see no need at all to open any doors to it, all this day, and accept that there will be no cold water available in the upstairs bathroom for some time, as I forgot to leave it dripping overnight. It will be a good day to catch up laundry, knowing that the dryer will send warmth and some useful moisture into the house. Also good for roasting or baking. I don't bake much, because... carbs! And I only have a small... Sign in to see full entry.
