Still having fun with those turkish cotton waffle-weave blankets and towels! They take dyes so well! This could become addictive! Maybe I should go into business... Sun is out again today, and it is cold, expected to rise to chilly this afternoon. Then temps in the teens F tonight again. Here beside the mountains, the sun goes below the horizon a little after 4pm/1600 hrs. For another couple of weeks, earlier and earlier... But then, Solstice! And the days lengthen again, to the great lightening... Sign in to see full entry.

another Cleveland memory
It is snowing now, small flakes slowly accumulating. I've made oatmeal for breakfast. Pat's post yesterday about Wandering Minstrels reminded me of the preachers that wandered around Cleveland back in the early 70s when I was in college. I saw them around the lake--a large pond, really--in front of the Cleveland Museum of Art. In front of the Museum is Rodin's sculpture, one of the original bronzes that he cast, The Thinker. This one is not like the few others that remain in the world. This is... Sign in to see full entry.

And so it begins...
It has been such an exhausting year, especially for the heart and mind, it has taken me a while to get into even a little Holiday spirit. No music yet... no decor. I have not yet hung the garland on the door, though it sits right here on the floor beside the shelves beside the door. (I couldn't think of what to call it yesterday, this addled brain would not supply the conventional word, but did offer up 'Door Wig.') But I needed the box in which were stored last year's Village, the David Winter... Sign in to see full entry.

Addenda to yesterday's post about dyeing.
https://teema.co/collections/all/products/the-waffle-blanket-bundle This link shows you the colors Teema produces. (The one they call 'ice' is more creamy than pale blue, at least the shipment I got. It made a nice lilac, though.) And these are my dyed colors: https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C Sign in to see full entry.

Dye Day
The great thing with Teema Turkish cotton fabrics are that they take dye so well! I am dying several of them today, with the intent of giving them as Yule gifts to family and friends. Elsa, who turns 4 this month, loves peachy colors, so I'm trying a technique to color a yellow one with red dye, dipping it into the dye bath gradually. Her mom mentioned lilac, so the pale oatmeal colored one went into a purple bath this morning, and it came out a soft, soft lavender, sort of a dusty lilac. There... Sign in to see full entry.

Birds and their songs
Bright sunshine on the mountain today... clear blue sky all around! It's cold out, and sitting here by the front window, I see little birds flashing by between the big blue spruce in the yard and the bird-feeder hanging on the deck. Mostly, they are house finches and chickadee types, but there is a slightly larger one who comes by every day: a spotted towee. Our Charlie doesn't like towees much. Back in the Olympia years, there was a towee that visited his bedroom window every morning, tapping... Sign in to see full entry.

Sun comes up, Moon goes down...
There was a bright pink tinge to the eastern clouds when I got up this morning. A few moments later, it was one of our lovely sunrises, and on the other side of the house, the window framed a rosey Pike's Peak. And the full moon was settling towards the Ramparts hilltops, with a few pink clouds around it. I have taken the photos of that descending moon more than once, though the moon doesn't change, nor does the landscape. But this morning, the clouds made moonset something different.... Still in recovery
Just enjoyed the next of the Thanksgiving leftovers: toasted a slice of sourdough, lightly buttered it and sprinkled poultry seasoning on it, then added heated meat and gravy over the top, and a spoonful of cranberry sauce. The next step is stew. The day outside is brilliant and cold. The mountain is bright white on top. The breezes are rattling the remaining leaves on the trees. I want coffee but I won't be having any. Last night was one of those nights of almost-sleeping, waking, drowsing, not... Sign in to see full entry.

The Day After
Well, I'm not even going to talk about my blood sugar numbers yesterday and this morning! Keeping to a low-carb breakfast of turkey and gravy, not even a little tempted this morning by leftover cheesecake or stuffing, and enjoying the view of Pike's Peak outside my front window. The mountain is white on top, snow and rock above the dark tree-line. The air is so clear I can imagine I can see the new visitor center at the very top. From the old one I could actually see--with my long zoom... Sign in to see full entry.
