Weird Hair Day

Sitting here, watching the early morning glow on Pike's Peak... It is cold outside, just above freezing, and a cloudless sky. After the recent high winds, the big maple tree is nearly bare, and across the street only one treetop catches the light in its orange-brown leaves. Sunday the word came back that the covid test of my grandson's coworker came back negative, but Charlie had, the day before, ordered groceries for pick-up 'curbside' at the grocery store. So we drove up to pick them up, and... Sign in to see full entry.

"Pwaroh for Mr Poyrot..."

I'm currently watching a lot of old episodes of the British Poirot mysteries. Written by Agatha Christie, they are set in the 1930s mostly, against the backdrop of looming war which Christie was yet to live through. The productions are rich with art deco and 30s fashions. Also, with the un- and semi-conscious racisms and classisms of those times. Some, perhaps, reflect Christie's view of the world. With this production which ran from 1989 to 2013, there are the reflections of consciousness of... Sign in to see full entry.

The blowhard season is not over after all...

West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected in the lower elevations. West winds 40 to 50 mph with gusts in excess of 75 mph expected in the higher terrain. The leaves on the big maple are rattling and many are still hanging on. It's the same through the neighborhood, with leafy trees, while at least on evergreen down the street is all decked out with Christmas lights. The wind penetrates into the house around the place where the portable a/c vents. I'd opened the heavy curtains on... Sign in to see full entry.

Friday the 13th

Suddenly it's Friday again! And somehow two days have gone by without writing here. Oh, I know I have those times I don't actually get a word in here, but I usually know it. I've read, but even comments seemed hard to put into words this week. I have been on my Gamester Diet the past couple of days, that might account for it. When I make my journeys to Middle-earth, playing my one game--Lord of the Rings Online--I play any of several characters I've created. They run lightly over the... Sign in to see full entry.

Midweek, midday

The clock is coming up on noon, and I have just had breakfast, still working on coffee while watching The Mysterious Affair at Styles--the very first Hercule Poirot tale by Agatha Christie. I started with watching a documentary about Christie, and it went into this story. I realized, I don't remember it! So I backed off the documentary and went searching to find the actual show. I hate spoilers! I will watch the documentary after I see the story played out! David Suchet was made to play Hercule... Sign in to see full entry.

Busy Tuesday

It has been a chilly day all day. First thing this morning was turning the heat on! Yesterday we drove to my friends' house to deliver the doll house, and visited for a while. Nice to be out, nice to visit friends... but it is taking a chance in these days of covid surge. We stayed an hour, and we stayed masked. With the doll house out of my house, there is room on the dining room table again--the flat surface that tends to get covered with stuff first. So getting the space back is great, and... Sunday morning anticipations

Windy and chilly and sunny today! Some friends are coming over around noon--a single mother and her two teen girls. I haven't seen them in months, and though we will all be masked up and there will not be hugging, I'm really looking forward to the visit! One of the big old doll houses I acquired a few years ago is a grand Victorian thing, and if she wants it, I'm giving it to the younger girl. Restoring and completing it could be a great long-term project! I also have some foody magazines for... Sign in to see full entry.

Home again, jiggety-jig!

Charlie and I got together for breakfast this morning, and an hour after planned, headed up to the grocery store. There are new restrictions in public places now the covid numbers are leaping upwards, but they are not egregious. Even so, I expected more shoppers in the lunch hour. It was pleasing to see not many at all. I still don't get why people wear masks wrong, not covering mouth and nose. I got my poke (po-kay) salad bowl from the sushi bar. I have several times asked for the salad rather... Sign in to see full entry.

Easy days, if one stays off FBook.

Another lovely warm day... 70s today again! I'll get up and open the deck door now, if Embers ever gets off my chest. The leaves on the maple have gone from cornflakes to pale, washed out beige, since the hard freezes we've had. Sunday it will drop to 50s, and Monday the Weather Underground predicts snow. I wonder how they predict weather from underground... After that, it's 40s the rest of the way through November, they say. We'll see. There is a new version of REBECCA available on Netflix. It... Sign in to see full entry.

a fall farewell

Possibly the last of the lovely autumn days is upon us... Temps up to the low 70s--perfection! I refilled the bird feeder today, and set the herbs out to catch some sunlight and fresh air. Doors and windows are open, and in a while, the fish tank will be topped up so the filter will stop splashing. Goldfish require salt in their water, and the filter-splash puts a salty coating on any nearby plants. It would help if I had a more complete cover for the tank. Also the water would evaporate more... Sign in to see full entry.
