Sunshine is trying to break through the grey today. Autumn chill has well and truly driven out the ennervating heat waves of the summer, and even without the boost of an actual frost, the leaves are going brilliant yellows and reds, and muted shades that are a pleasure to the eye. I forget the word for it, but, speaking of colors, it seems that I'm one of those lucky folks with extra cones in the eye who actually see more nuanced colors in the world. I love color! I love choosing yarns for their... Sign in to see full entry.

70th year officially accomplished
It feels so... Monday! Got up, did the morning stuff, made an easy breakfast, watched some silly tv, did the daily Wordle--got it on the second guess!--and now, two and a half hours later--feeling ready for a nap. Pixiechops has been cuddling on my lap as I sit here, and while that whole trapped-by-cat thing is indeed a thing, she tends not to stay long enough to become a problem for getting other things done. So that's just about perfect! Today's plan is to clean up the back yard. It's gone the... Sign in to see full entry.

Golden Sunday sunrise with remembrances
Awake too early, but in time to see the clouds all rosy-gold scattered across the sky. With our new, more cuddlesome relationship, a couple of times this week Pixie has slept beside me for a while. As the weather coming through the openish deck door by the bed becomes cooler, dipping into the high 40s F, she also likes to get under the covers. That's where she went last night as I was settling for sleep, tucking herself in right behind my legs. At some point, she stretched out full length there,... Sign in to see full entry.

Weekend with Elizabeth ll
Another Saturday dawns with sunshine, though we are promised in that easy way of the official meteorologists, thunderstorms today. Recent rains have finally greened up the hills to the west of town, and that's such a heartening sight! I can only hope for more before winter sets its freezy teeth into the landscape. If you are a fan of the series, THE CROWN, you may already know that the next season is sceduled to air in early November. There will be another new Queen Elizabeth, another new Prince... Cuddles and Purrs--Part Two
Since the few days ago when I first wrote about not letting the cat set the tone of the relationship, my attempts at un-aloofness are paying off! The past two or three days, she has been climbing up into my lap, laying her head down, and purring through some pettings. And, in fact, here she comes again! Direction matters. If she climbs up from the left, she is in a good position to keep an eye on the birds to the right. From the right, she is aimed away from the birds and that's when she lays... happy early birthday to me!
For the past couple of years, I've been tolerating less and less the blown speakers on my tv. So today, with half being paid for by Charlie's dad, I replaced it with a new one. After 6 or 7 years, the tech has moved right along, and so this one is quite different. I can't begin to say how different! Really, I can't. I just don't speak Tech. I can only say it is very much brighter and more crisp, and the sound is brilliant--No more having to put on subtitles to not miss the words, or turning... Sign in to see full entry.

Storm and Mayhem
Thinking about Florida today. I visited Florida as a 6-year old, and remember it for dolphins and for St Augustine, and it's fort built of sea shells--tiny, and cemented into a natural matrix. I was there again maybe 30 years ago in a February. The rental car agency, for unknown reasons, upgraded me to a convertible, white with a red interior... I looked so fine, driving around in that car, the top down any time it wasn't raining too much! (Misty rain did not, of course, count as actual rain.) I... Sign in to see full entry.

Revving-up Tuesday
Heat's on this morning--only briefly, taking the chill off the puffed up birds. There are clouds already building over the mountains, and there might be storms this afternoon. Got some laundry going first thing this morning, and that feels like an accomplishment. It's even already in the dryer! Made breakfast, and I'm drinking matcha tea instead of coffee this morning. Sunday was a last-minute excursion to Castle Rock, about 40 miles north. Charlie had a jugger practice with teams from Denver... Sign in to see full entry.

Cuddles and purrs
There was a documentary about cats that said that you get back from your cat what you show your cat. If you see your cat as aloof, and so are aloof yourself, this reinforces that behavior in your cat. That's what comes of letting your cat set the tone. I took this to heart as that's exactly what I've been doing: taking Pixie's actions as indicators of her preferences, thinking it's respecting what she wants. It has made me a little sad that she has, in fact, been so aloof from physical contact,... Sign in to see full entry.

Beginnings and endings
Ahh... Here's the cool I've been looking forward to! Highs in the 60s today, with some rain predicted, though nothing dramatic. I hope it will be a deep-saturating rain. And I hope it all slides eastward to cool down the midwest and east coast! I finally had a good enough reason to return to Netflix. They've been running several shows I kinda wanted to watch, but they finally got me with the new season of The Great British Baking Show. This time I have the account and Charlie will be tapping...
