Charlie and I had dropped off our groceries in the truck and were on the way over to the hair-cutters, when a man fell in a seizure right there in front of us. Charlie saw him fall, and I was just a moment behind him. Charlie was immediately on his phone to 911, and I knelt by the man and just put my hands on him on an impulse of letting him know he was not alone, and was cared for, even if he was not consciously aware. Another woman brought over a folded blanket to put under his head. Someone... Sign in to see full entry.

Reluctant morning...
Day seemed to come on slowly this morning. After summer's mornings rising brightly by 5:30, this morning it was still dark at 6:30, light only hinted at by then, and not making it past the curtains on the eastern side of the house until 7. Now, at 7:30, the sun itself has not risen here, though the mountains are glowing with it to the west. I, on the other hand, rose around 5. Dark mornings have their rewards: when the sky is clear, Jupiter is brilliant in the eastern sky, and this always is... Sign in to see full entry.

Grey Saturday
Cool and grey again this morning... Looking at the forecast for the next 10 days, only two days--Monday, Tuesday--we might see temps in the 70s. The rest of the time, highs are in the 60s, and a couple of lows below 40 overnight. With luck, this will go on for a while longer, the mild autumn I was hoping for. But even so, it's time to bring in the plants I want to keep going over winter. Woke this morning wanting coffee. I don't coffee up every day, but after yesterday's fuzziness, today seemed... Friday is fuzzy
Chilly and grey here this morning... my mind matches it, starting only slowly and without much enthusiasm. Yesterday's adventure went from casual leaf-peeping up in the Rockies to driving an unpaved, 30 miles of historic and scenic and twisty/windy/narrow road through Phantom Canyon. Pictures will be up on Flickr later today, linked up on my Adventuring blog. It will be slower today, I expect. Grocery shopping, probably, but nothing else is coming to mind. Louisa was born three years ago as of... Sign in to see full entry.

Seeking leaves and colors
First day in a while with no rain in the forecast. Charlie and I are going to head out pretty soon for a leaf-peeping trip up into the mountains. Even without a hard frost down here, the colors are coming out already. I hope we aren't too late for the higher elevations! There was a dash of snow visible on Pike's Peak the other day. Before we head for the hills, it's time to drop by Kaiser for a blood draw for the 3 month update on my A1C test that gives the average of where the blood sugar... Sign in to see full entry.

Colorful Words!
Sunshine is trying to break through the grey today. Autumn chill has well and truly driven out the ennervating heat waves of the summer, and even without the boost of an actual frost, the leaves are going brilliant yellows and reds, and muted shades that are a pleasure to the eye. I forget the word for it, but, speaking of colors, it seems that I'm one of those lucky folks with extra cones in the eye who actually see more nuanced colors in the world. I love color! I love choosing yarns for their... Sign in to see full entry.

70th year officially accomplished
It feels so... Monday! Got up, did the morning stuff, made an easy breakfast, watched some silly tv, did the daily Wordle--got it on the second guess!--and now, two and a half hours later--feeling ready for a nap. Pixiechops has been cuddling on my lap as I sit here, and while that whole trapped-by-cat thing is indeed a thing, she tends not to stay long enough to become a problem for getting other things done. So that's just about perfect! Today's plan is to clean up the back yard. It's gone the... Sign in to see full entry.

Golden Sunday sunrise with remembrances
Awake too early, but in time to see the clouds all rosy-gold scattered across the sky. With our new, more cuddlesome relationship, a couple of times this week Pixie has slept beside me for a while. As the weather coming through the openish deck door by the bed becomes cooler, dipping into the high 40s F, she also likes to get under the covers. That's where she went last night as I was settling for sleep, tucking herself in right behind my legs. At some point, she stretched out full length there,... Sign in to see full entry.

Weekend with Elizabeth ll
Another Saturday dawns with sunshine, though we are promised in that easy way of the official meteorologists, thunderstorms today. Recent rains have finally greened up the hills to the west of town, and that's such a heartening sight! I can only hope for more before winter sets its freezy teeth into the landscape. If you are a fan of the series, THE CROWN, you may already know that the next season is sceduled to air in early November. There will be another new Queen Elizabeth, another new Prince... Cuddles and Purrs--Part Two
Since the few days ago when I first wrote about not letting the cat set the tone of the relationship, my attempts at un-aloofness are paying off! The past two or three days, she has been climbing up into my lap, laying her head down, and purring through some pettings. And, in fact, here she comes again! Direction matters. If she climbs up from the left, she is in a good position to keep an eye on the birds to the right. From the right, she is aimed away from the birds and that's when she lays...
