Well, the snow came at last, and now it is falling sideways, so thick the other side of the street could be sneaking away, for all I can tell. If it keeps up at this pace, we will indeed have it in feet rather than inches! Some little round birds, mostly black with a dull orange 'saddle' on the back, have been bouncing around in the snow that has buried the bird seed dishes. I hung out a new one today, a feeder with a little roof, but it is by no means snow-proof. CCT is right, of course: I'd... Sign in to see full entry.
They said...
we could expect as much as a meter of snow this weekend. We rushed out, along with just about everyone else, making sure to have basics in the pantry and candles if the lights go out, and charcoal (to be used in the open garage) if the stove and microwave goes out. The fridge shutting down is no problem, with all of outdoors below freezing. We found things sold out at the big grocery store: no celery, no diet coke, no pull-date bread... We could see what people want and don't care about when the... Sign in to see full entry.

It is sunny again today
and the air is balmy. The water runs off the roof in a quietly persistant cascade as the snows from the other day melt. The forecasters promise that by tomorrow night, it will be snowing again, and go on through the weekend. YoYo weather! I discovered Library 21c today: a public library that has spaces for gaming, creative work, performance... and tools that the public can access for printing, even 3-D printing for a nominal fee. 21c refers to 21st Century. It has books, too--and a used book... Sign in to see full entry.

About the rose petals...
A couple of you have mentioned in comments that you like the rose petals that were part of our funeral for Violetta. This ritual came from a dream I had years ago, of having to bury someone, and, not wanting to simply put the body on cold dirt, in this dream, I filled the bottom of the grave with flowers, and then covered her over with them, as well, so that dirt would not touch her. This has been part of our pet funerals ever since. In the spring, I will plant flowers or a tree very nearby, as... Sign in to see full entry.

Thanks so much...
to all of you who sent your condolences for Violetta's going. I miss her... but not as she was when she was ill--I am sad for losing the playful kitten, the feisty cat she was in her healthier days. I guess that is a lot of what grieving is, for someone who dies in illness: It is good to know she isn't in pain and unhappiness. Her eyes were bright, as if she was entirely there behind them, to the end. We made a bed of rose petals--peach, pink, yellow and lavender, and covered her body over with... She is gone...
Violetta's body gave up the fight overnight. I am going through a lot of tissues today. Sign in to see full entry.

an update on Violetta
At the pet store today I found a pouch food that is mostly gravy, and mackeral which is a new flavor for her. She ate about a teaspoon at a time, over the afternoon. I think she even ate some of the fish itself. That is such a relief! Also, she seems to have wearied of the den in the back of the closet. She bedded down on the pantry floor, then on the kitchen floor for a while, and has now gone downstairs to the bathroom where she seems to favor the cool porcelain pedastal of the accoutrement.... Looking for a veterinarian...
...who will bill for services. They don't, any more. You pay up front, or put it on a credit card. If you don't own credit cards, you have to get one before you can take your animal to the vet. And the fees... they add up fast! I found one today who charges a flat $65 for the initial visit, which includes the vaccinations a cat should have. If the cat is currently too ill to receive vaccinations, they charge the same. It seems such an American thing, to care more about the money than anything... Sign in to see full entry.

A fine day!
Yesterday was another beautiful, warm day. I wish I could box up how lovely and relaxing it was, and send some around to all of you! An actor/poet friend of mine needed new headshots for his portfolio and for upcoming auditions. He announced this need on facebook, and got a number of responses from friends with cameras, so I am quite chuffed that he chose to call me. He and his ladyfriend, another friend, came over yesterday for a little lunch and a photo-session. Lunch--I warned them it was an... Sign in to see full entry.
