Yesterday we stopped at an Asian market and brought back a number of little tasty or tasty-looking small food items for making a dimsum breakfast at home. For anyone who has not had dimsum, they are a collective name for little tidbits and morsels that are often steamed, like shu-mai and pot-stickers and steamed or baked dumplings and buns. Some are sweet, like those filled with red bean paste, and some are savory with meat fillings. In a restaurant, a cart comes by the tables with steamer... Sign in to see full entry.

Raining in Seattle!
Yes, yes, it is always supposed to be raining in Seattle... But what people far from here suppose isn't how it is. In fact, summers in the Puget Sound region can be simply gorgeous! Even idyllic! With the occasional summer heat-wave that drives people to nearby mountains or ocean beaches, and long dry stretches, it can get too hot and dry even west of the Cascades. This summer there are wildfires in the Olympics to prove it. But those fine days of temperatures in the 70s and low 80s F, when the... Sign in to see full entry.

Progress in sight
Lovely day here in Seattle--moderate temps, sunny with a few clouds, no rain expected. Ordinarily I am not much into discussing ailments and procedures that I'm going through, but I think there is a value in making some of the details more familiar to people who may, sooner or later, be faced with similar situations. It would have been helpful to me to have some information from others regarding this one, and things like root canal work, or childbirth, or growing old. Well, not everyone's awful... On to the next phase...
Big ol' eyepatch, no depth perception... Eye surgery was surreal, what with a fair amount of sedation and yesterday's Battle of Five Armies and a Doctor Who binge... the latest Doctor, Peter Capaldi's first 6 episodes. Blend with geometrics and patterns of other kinds... Looking forward to the next eye-fix, in a month or so. Tylenol now, and a lie-down... The healing phase will be more challenging, I think. noises off
It's a theater term that means, there are noises off-stage. Such noises indicate goings-on that the audience can surmise but not see: background chatter and busy-ness. The noises of Seattle, here where I am staying, are very different from the noises of Colorado Springs. This is a city, and there is a steady white-noise like an air conditioner outside the window, though no responsible device is in view from the window. There is the occasional bang of a door no one thinks to close quietly, and... Sign in to see full entry.

What luck!
I was sooo lucky yesterday! First, I, for once, set my alarm to go off at 4-30 am... luckily, Charlie woke me just before that, and that was when I realized my clock never made the Savings Time spring forward... I'd have been an hour late. Then... When I printed out my boarding pass, it seemed odd it printed 2, so I left one home. Shoulda read it... It was a two flight trip, connection in Denver, and it had printed both boarding passes. I had time, though, at the airport, to get them reprinted.... Sign in to see full entry.

Touch down!
Tomorrow I will write about moments of extraordinary luck while traveling... For now, I'm too tired to think, after 3 hrs of sleep before rising at 4:30 this morning to get to the airport. The air was terribly unclear between Denver and Seattle, the whole west is hazy with the smoke of wildfires. But then, there were a few good shots to be had... Flying...
...to Seattle tomorrow morning! To the airport at 5am for a 6:40 flight to Denver, 2+ hours layover, then about the same time in the air, arriving in Seattle in time for lunch. Friday, eye surgeon will do his assessment of my ocular orbs, and presumably on Monday, will fix one of the them. About 10 days later he will check his work, then I fly home again, if all's well. If it isn't... well, we will deal with that if and when. I went shopping this morning and found a large plastic planter/tub for... Sign in to see full entry.

This one is for Naut who loves the sea
OCTOPUS Lurking loosely, blobbishly unrolling your enormous head a-lolling with a kind of neckless grace as you come pouring down the face of rocky coves and coral caves that shimmer with a most enchanting glimmer through the roof of pulsing waves. Gem set in a jewel Red or yellow, white and polka-dots and stripes or maybe cobalt blue. Loosely committed to your shade, your shape also defined sort of by whatever space you fill... And yet, in you a hunter's canny will and truth be told, you're... Sign in to see full entry.

Thinking of Pat and all the muse-attended writers here
This was written originally for a writer friend who had a very special relationship with her muse. MUSE Under branches reaching... for light of stars and solitary moons and wanderers across the sky... Always I am here-- another tale unfolding, a flower held in both our hands unbudding to an unexpected bloom... The light of all these skies shines-- between our eyes... Never fear-- I am here. Seek me seeking you-- in corners of your heart known but unexplored... in campfire shadows... In... Sign in to see full entry.
