Sproing!

The green mist has begun to appear in the local landscape, and buds are green on the lilacs, whose leaves are fully out and bright green. There is no snow in the forecast, no temps even near snowy. I think we've made it! I remember feeling this sense of relief and happiness one May, and wrote a poem that is somewhere in the archives here... Aha! http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/Ciel/609465 I am tickled all over to know I will be in England for May Day this year! This morning I renewed my... Sign in to see full entry.

Home again

Sitting back in my comfy chair, watching the day happening outside the front window... Blue sky, white mountain... There are not photos much from the Northwest, I can only paint with words this time. I can tell you of the woods alongside the roads, I-5 and the lesser ways, where the dark firs and less-dark cedars stand sentinal year round, and how, now spring is truly setting about its business, there are mists of other greens--many yellowish, some bright and pure--advancing through the woods... Happy Spring!

The best thing about being in the Pacific Northwest is that spring is well-sprung, with flowering trees in full glory, and greens of all shades all around! Back in CoSprings, the lilacs are making another attempt to spread their leaves, and other buds are still uncertain. Maybe things will have progressed by the time we return there Tuesday night. But we hear rumors of snow... We'll leave for Olympia in about half an hour to put in another half day of work, then bring daughter Annie, who flew... Sign in to see full entry.

Treasure!

One of the best finds of the day: the hard copy of the 2/3rds finished manuscript that is part 2 of my long novel project, which I had thought lost in the hard drive of our most ancient Mac! Next best: a Terry Pratchett Discworld novel I have not seen for many a year, just in time to be my next read! I often re-read Sir Terry's books, and delight in forgotten bits once again. This one should be full of them, it has been so long, and I am so good at forgetting! Downer of the day: I have the... Sign in to see full entry.

Lovely spring weather in the Northwest

has given way to chilly showers for the foreseeable future. sigh... The flight was tolerable, whenever the babies and toddlers stopped howling dismay. Frontier airlines... Used to be there were air hostesses and hosts; now, they are shop-keepers. The only complimentary beverage is water, and they are anxious to prop their corporate economy by selling every possible thing. Okay, the fare was good and cheap. But really, $30 for your carry-on?? We were smart and brought our own food for the day. To... Sign in to see full entry.

The eastern sky was blazing...

...when I got up this morning, just in time to see the most brilliant moment of the sunrise. I heated the last half-cup of butternut squash soup, and tossed the empty container in the trash. In a while, I will finish last night's Chinese delivery (mooshu shrimp) and toss that container, too, plus anything else in the fridge that won't last a week. (Toss, not finish.) Then the garbage will go out, and the dishwasher will run, and I will finish off the packing. Charlie's friend will, hopefully,... Sign in to see full entry.

Breakfast

After gazing longingly at some of those food photos I put up yesterday ( https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C ) I could not be satisfied this morning with toaster waffles or a bowl of donut-seeds. I mentioned the masala 'burgers' the other day--spicy Indian vegie patties that fry up nicely crispy with a bit of olive oil... I made a sort of chutney to go with them, using the last of the mincemeat, a little apricot spread, and a dash of rice wine vinegar. Today, thinking back on those lovely breakfasts the... The Mound, and Beyond

Yesterday we went to see one of the shows for which Charlie helped organzie the set. It's called HAPPY DAYS, written by Samuel Beckett who is best known for WAITING FOR GODOT. This one has a great mound in the center of the stage: in the original, it is a mound of sand, but this time it's a mound of wood and mesh, very interesting to look at, really a beautiful set. Beckett would have sued, probably. He hated anyone making alterations to his vision. But it was a fine set! The primary character,... Sign in to see full entry.

Quick recipes and photos on FAA

I shopped yesterday at Trader Joe's, came home with some frozen "Masala Vegetable Burgers." They are "burgers" because they are shaped into patties, and the suggestion is that they are a vegan alternative to meat burgers. But on buns, there would be just too much bread in the meal, and actually, gently fried in a pan they are very nice, Indian-spicy, not hot-spicy. I thought they'd be good with chutney, but I didn't have any. But wait...! I took a bit of apricot fruit spread, added it to some... Sign in to see full entry.

FaceBook Blues

Okay, I suppose it could be solar flares... I seem to be in a mood, feeling quite impatient with 'clicker bait' headlines and terribly positive sentiments about how to be happy and how to be good. I am exasperated with the Be Afraid and Be Outraged generalities that sum up with a plea for loose change. As if there isn't enough to be anxious and outraged about, really! I don't have any problem with Budi and Gemmi the rescued orphan orangs discovering each other and becoming best friends. I still... Sign in to see full entry.
