Connections

We went to the Pike's Peak Celtic fest today, enjoyed the music, the caber toss, some good fish'n'chips, and finding--not family, exactly, but sort of. Charlie's middle name is McLean, after the clan his dad's family has connections with. Today, he was welcomed by the Maclean clan who, among other clans, had a booth at the festival. Among notable Maclean relatives, it turns out, are Shirley Maclean and Sean Connery. The folks at the booth were delighted to find another, regardless of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Welcome to Friday

The last day of the regular work week... The day garage sales and theater productions open... The last chance this week to get business taken care of... I dropped Charlie at work then went to the bank for a bit of financial shenanigans, now I am at home before going out to take my primary ballot to the drop-off place after checking to make sure I signed with the signature they have on file for me. Then, pet store for fish food. It will be another but the last really hot day for the... Sign in to see full entry.

Hailorado!

Last night parts of the Springs had a little hail. Like here, for about 15 minutes, maybe 10, half-inch hail pounded on the roof, richoceted off every surface... I was glad I'd taken in my succulents, seeing the possibility of rain. Succulents generally don't like much water, not all that often. Afterwards, there was rain falling heavily for a while, then just lightning across the whole sky from east to west. It was quite a show! But south of us, and southwest, in the Fort Carson, Fountain... Sign in to see full entry.

As predicted...

It has been a busy day, clearing old boxes from the garage, rearranging and reorganizing... Two sets of shelves are in place and even mostly loaded now. The garage has needed an update for a long time now, so it is very satisfying to see it accomplished. Colorado has another big wildfire burning. This one is near Durango on the southwestern side of the state, and our air quality is affected here on the other side of the mountains. When the west burns, even as far off as the coast, Colorado skies... Sign in to see full entry.

Breezing through...

It is noonish, the temps will remain moderately hot, mid 80s this afternoon. Those 5 and 10 degrees sure make a difference! There's a hearty occasional breeze coming in the back door, gleefully redistributing mail and papers throughout the upstairs. I dropped Charlie at work this morning, then went on to get coffee at the kiosk which currently has earned our business, and then because it is only across the parking lot, stopped at the thrift store. Outside were six big heavy-duty plastic storage... Sign in to see full entry.

A jar of potatoes

I just put 5lbs of Yukon Gold potatoes, a really large eggplant, and two big halved artichokes in foil, into the oven. It is just into the 60s this morning, and will be 92F this afternoon, so it's a good time to get the baking done and the oven turned off while the day is still reasonably cool. It will take several days to eat the taters, between Charlie and me, and the eggplant will also be spooned out of the skin and saved for sandwiches with peppers and onions and some other roasted... The very busy day!

Today around 11am we drove up to Denver where Charlie auditioned for the role of Couch Potato in a commercial for some kind of comcast-like service to be offered in the mid-west. While he did that, I had a lively chat with a young woman named Marika--that makes three Marikas I have known in my life, including my daughter. Then another woman turned up whose name is Markia. She is interested in energy work and astrology, and I shared some of my 'puzzle pieces' with her and recommended some reading... Sign in to see full entry.

Not quite summer...

Wednesday morning... car is going in for oil change and some little sensor thing that makes the check engine light go on when it doesn't work right. And the new old laptop is also going back to the shop to see why it doesn't turn on properly. I hope the theme of the day will be fixing rather than failing. It'll be hot again today, over 90F. Not my favorite, the heat. Humidity would make it worse--I've never been one for tropical climates. Growing up in the NY metropolitan area, never with a/c,... Sign in to see full entry.

Too much caffeine

I know better, I knew better as I chugged down a diet soda with a late lunch, after a 16-oz morning coffee: tired as I was, getting to sleep and staying asleep was problematic all through the night. Embers didn't help much. She came and mewed and petting my face and rubbed... with a wet head! Where did she get a wet head? The Mystery of The Cat In The Night... It will be another hot day, and now, during the coolth of the day, is when I might get some work done. Well, the dishwasher is running,... Sign in to see full entry.

lovely Monday with puffy plants

It will be hotter today, but now at 9:30ish it is simply warm and clear. Yesterday I noticed a screw-head embedded in my truck's back left tire. This morning, there is no sign of flattliness, so I am guessing it isn't in the rubber deep enough to have reached where air goes. All the same, I will take Charlie to work then take the truck to my go-to car repair place and have them check it out. The doves--a couple of them--are on the front yard this morning. This is where I toss the remainders of... Sign in to see full entry.
