Hardships Are Chances to Grow. And Who Gives us These Chances? Our Enemies

"In my own experience, the period of greatest gain in knowledge and experience is the most difficult period in one's life....Through a difficult period, you can learn, you can develop inner strength, determination, and courage to face the problem. Who gives you this chance? Your enemy." - His Holiness, The Dalai Lama I came across this quote from His Holiness recently, and it is fast becoming one of my favorites. The power in this short statement is profound and true. Most everyone will agree... Sign in to see full entry.

My Dead Uncle Came to Visit Me and Scared the &#%*$!! Out of Me

When my uncle died a few years back, I had hoped that he would come and visit me. I had been doing a lot of research concerning near-death experiences and reincarnation, so I was in the frame of mind to accept a visit from him. I remember telling my wife that I felt like my uncle was going to come and visit me. In truth, I visited him. About two weeks after the funeral, I was dog-tired from a couple of long days at work. I got home late, had a bite to eat, and went to bed. I fell right to sleep... Sign in to see full entry.

"I'm Dead. But, All in All, it Doesn't Stop me From Living."

More of Thursdays With Death. This one is a little long, hope you like it though. When we last left Lanny, he had just been awakened from a strange dream by the ringing of the phone. “Hi Lanny, how you doing?” the voice on the other end of the phone said to me. It sounded very familiar, this voice, but I couldn’t quite place it. “I’m good. How are you doing?” I asked, playing along as though I knew who it was, like most of us do when we don’t know who it is we are speaking with but are hoping... Sign in to see full entry.

Let Go and Let "God" Out

“Let go and let God.” A specifically Christian statement that points to allowing “God’s” will to be your plan. But I happen to think that it would be more appropriate if the statement read, “Let go and let God out.” Let me explain. I am a firm believer that the kingdom of “God”, the spiritual realm, is already here. It is not something that is coming. It is not something that we wait expectantly for. It is something that is within each and every one of us. Today. Now. Yeshua said so in Luke... Sign in to see full entry.

What if Everything's an Expression of Energy Trying to Return to the Divine

If you were to look around, you would see varying states of matter, from the hardness of stone to the softness of a newborn. Between these two extremes, there are varying degrees of hard matter to soft matter. And among the soft matter, there are varying degrees of intelligence, from the lower intelligence of microbes to the higher intelligence of animals. What if everything that we look at, from diamonds to orangutans, from amoebas to humans, are expressions of energy trying to reunite with the... Sign in to see full entry.

My Parents Taught Me Yeshua is the Only Savior, so it Must be Right, Right?

I teach a course fairly often on root cause analysis. The gist of the course is that we often don’t get to root cause when analyzing a problem because we are bound by the process of classification, which is a part of the learning approach known as constructivism. Constructivism is a process where we learn by building (constructing) concepts based on current and past knowledge. As very young children, when we are shown a picture of an object that is a round, pole-like structure that is brown in... Sign in to see full entry.

Everything is Divine - Except Hamsters

The continuing Conversations With Death... So many things floated through my head all morning after that dream I had the previous night. There were questions that puzzled me, important questions that demanded answers. How can one live with two masters? Why was Hamid, the dead dry cleaner afraid of my discussions with Death? And, most importantly, what on earth were two elderly ladies with very deep voices doing with motorcycles? As it turns out, the last question had something to do with a goofy... Hate Overtakes One Afraid of Himself

Hate comes when one does not understand. Hate stays when one needs to control. Hate overtakes when one is afraid of himself Love comes when one need not understand Love stays when one surrenders control Love overtakes when one embraces that fear Sign in to see full entry.

Fear is What Fills in the Space When Love's Absence Creates a Vaccum

Fear is what fills in the space when Love’s absence creates a vacuum. There is nothing that moves as Fear does, oozing insidiously and slowly from cracks in the mask or rushing out in putrid gushes from tattered psyches as it consumes each and every void. Understand that there is nothing but Fear to fill that emptiness. Jealousy? Anger? Hate? They are mere bumbling stepchildren of that wicked Ogre hellbent on devouring everything that flounders. The only way to keep Fear at bay is to allow no... Sign in to see full entry.

Fascism: Fear-Based Control in a Christian-Majority Nation?

Fascism. Some define it as institutionalized violence. Some define it as a philosophy of disempowerment based on fear. That second definition is one that is similar to mine. I see fascism as control through fear. Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, identified 14 characteristics of fascism based on his examination of the regimes of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto and Pinochet. Here is a summary of those 14 points: Powerful and continuing nationalism employing constant use of patriotic... Sign in to see full entry.
