It sure makes you wonder what is really happening with the government, doesn't it?

de Montisquieu was brilliant, was he not. And an atheist too, if I remember right.

sannhet-
Authoritarian rule - I remember Sarah Jessica Parker made a remark to some talk show host that yes, sometimes she listened to talk radio; (she was quite well-spoken on several issues)  She came home and heard her husband listening, too. Her comment, "Well, what are the Fascists saying now?" that stands out in my mind, because talk radio spouts a lot of fear (not love!)  Now that popularity numbers are at an all-time low, with the Iraqi Mi Lai Massacre looming on the horizon, we'll see how much control this government commands.  All the liberals who didn't move to Canada and just laid low are surfacing like bobbers in a pond.  There IS an American 'gestapo' so it IS understandable why they were fearful to speak out.  They may have had some 'visitors.'  But that's stuff for controversy.

I think the intentions of these states were for the good of their own people, which is why they failed. Did you know that the swastika was a symbol of good fortune in pre-World War 2?

far left and far right
The far left wants to take over. The far right wants to take over. Is there any middle ground? Perhaps we need to refer back to the writings of a man who had a profound effect on the founders.  Charles de Montesquie seemed to have an uncanny knack for knowing what it would take to establish and maintain a moderate government.  Especially his "Spirit of Laws"(1748).
