The first youngster flew out of the nest, and made the boldest first-flight I've observed yet: all the way out to the big blue spruce! Usually, the first one flutters around the deck area for a day or two before attempting such a flight. This one went from nest to hanging chair to one of the plants hanging on the deck railing, and then out to the spruce. It's perhaps a 30-ft distance--as the dove flies.
