People leave.
There are people I consider friends, that I enjoy exchanging emails with, and play with in that online multi-player game I play, and chat on a regular or occasional basis. Certainly there are differences between this kind of relationship and one of face-to-face meetings, actual coffees and meals shared over the same table... Some advantages, some not so much.
