I have much the same kind of relationship with a number of people and I agree... it is less of a wrench when they disappear for a while but that is alsost the only advantage to online relationships

Excellent insight..
I haven't really thought about it that way - friendships offline and on are both real and a saving grace for me. I do see your point though - if a friend since childhood said good-bye that would hurt much more than one on line.
